• The issue price for the next tranche of Sovereign Gold Bond Scheme 2021-22, which will open for subscription for five days from August 22, has been fixed at Rs 5,197 per gram of gold, the Reserve Bank of India.
• The Sovereign Gold Bond Scheme 2022-23 Series II will be open for subscription from August 22 – 26, 2022.
• The nominal value of the bond…works out to Rs 5,197.
• The central government, in consultation with the Reserve Bank of India, has decided to offer a discount of Rs 50 per gram, less than the nominal value, to those investors applying online and the payment against the application is made through digital mode.
• For such investors, the issue price of Gold Bond will be Rs 5,147 per gram of gold.
• The RBI issues the bonds on behalf of the Centre.
• The bonds will be sold through banks, Stock Holding Corporation of India Limited (SHCIL), designated post offices and recognised stock exchanges — NSE and BSE.
• The scheme was launched in November 2015 with an objective to reduce the demand for physical gold and shift a part of the domestic savings — used for the purchase of gold — into financial savings.
• The price of the bond is fixed in Indian currency on the basis of a simple average closing price of gold of 999 purity, published by the India Bullion and Jewellers Association Limited for the last 3 working days of the week preceding the subscription period.

• Central Bank of India reported a 14.2 per cent rise in net profit to Rs 234.78 crore in the first quarter ended June this fiscal as compared to Rs 205.58 crore in the same quarter a year ago.
• In the latest quarter, the bank’s gross NPA fell to 14.9 per cent of the gross advances as compared to 15.92 per cent in the year-ago period.
• Net NPAs too declined to 3.93 per cent from 5.09 per cent in the first quarter of the previous year.
• Of the three PSU lenders under the RBI’s watch, Indian Overseas Bank and UCO Bank were removed from the framework in September 2021.
• The Central Bank of India was put under the PCA framework in June 2017 due to its high net non-performing assets (NPAs) and low Return on Assets.

• The production of green hydrogen based on an alkaline electrolysis process has begun.
• The plant will produce 45 kg of green hydrogen daily, which will be used for captive consumption in the company’s Hazira manufacturing complex.
• The green hydrogen plant is designed for an electrolyser capacity of 800 kW comprising both Alkaline (380 kW) and PEM (420 kW) technologies and will be powered by a rooftop solar plant of 990kW peak DC capacity and a 500kWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS).
• As part of the first phase of the project 380 kW Alkaline electrolyser has been installed, while the 420 kW PEM electrolyser along with solar plant capacity augmentation to 1.6 MW peak DC, will be part of future expansion.

• The beneficiaries will be provided with monetary assistance to the tune of Rs 50,000 each to supplement their ongoing economic activities or to start the fresh one during the current fiscal.

• The CM said his government has allocated more than Rs 300 crore for the implementation of family-oriented programme of the SEDP in the current fiscal despite the state losing over Rs 3,000 crores in in terms of revenue grants, other central assistances and other financial devolutions due to the pandemic.
