Border Roads Organisation (BRO) Raising Day

• Edition: 64th
• The BRO was formed on 7 May 1960 to secure India’s borders and develop infrastructure in remote areas of the north and north-east states of the country.
• BRO has constructed over 61,218 km of roads, over 915 bridges, four tunnels, and 19 airfields along India’s borders and in friendly foreign countries, including Bhutan, Myanmar, Afghanistan, and Tajikistan.
• As part of BRO Day, the Hon’ble DefenceMinister flagged in the “Ekta Avam Shradhanjali Abhiyaan,” a multi-modal expedition that commenced on 10 April 2023 from Daulat Beg Oldie (DBO) in Ladakh and Kibithu in Arunachal Pradesh and culminated on 07 May 2023 at Pune.
• The Hon’ble Minister inaugurated BRO Technical Training Complex and Drive-through Automated Driving Track.
• He also released BRO-centric software created as part of the Digital India initiative to automate various aspects of the functioning of the BRO.

World Athletics Day

• World Athletics Day is observed on May 7 to encourage sports activities throughout the world.
• The primary aim of this day is to inculcate athleticism in youngsters.

World Athletics Day 2023: History

• World Athletics Day was established in 1996 by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) president and Italian sports official Primo Nebiolo.
• The IAAF was founded in Stockholm, Sweden, on July 17, 1912. The organization changed its name to World Athletics in 2019.
• It is currently headquartered in Monaco and serves as the international governing body for the sport of athletics, including track and field events.
• In addition to governing competitions and setting official world records, it also standardizes technical equipment used in athletics.
• IAAF president Primo Nebiolo founded World Athletics Day in 1996.

• The project is inspired by the Government of India’s Pradhan MantriUjjwalaYojana which is a flagship scheme with an objective to make clean cooking fuel such as LPG available to rural and deprived households which were otherwise using traditional cooking fuels such as firewood, coal, cow-dung cakes.
• Since 2003, India has taken up over 535 High Impact Community Development Projects in Nepal and has completed 478 projects.
• Amongst these, 81 projects are in Mahdesh Pradesh including 6 projects in Mahottari District.
