  • Credit growth of commercial banks is at a near nine-year high of 15.5 per cent year-on-year for the week ended August 26, latest data released by the Reserve Bank of India showed.

  • In the current financial year so far, banks have extended Rs 5.66 trillion by way of loans, representing a growth of 4.8 per cent as compared to -0.5 per cent during the same period last year.

  • The decision was taken in a meeting chaired by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, which discussed various issues related to illegal loan apps.
  • There have been rising instances of fraud by digital lending apps, which are not registered with the central bank and operate on their own.

  • The gross direct tax collection increased by 35.46% on year-on-year basis to Rs 6.48 lakh crore till September 8 in the financial year 2022-23, provisional figures from finance ministry.
  • The direct tax collection, net of refunds, stood at Rs 5.29 lakh crore, 30.17 % higher than the net collections for corresponding period of last year.
  • This is 37.24% of the total Budget Estimates of direct taxes.
  • Refunds of Rs 1.19 lakh crore have been issued during April 1, 2022, to September 8, 2022, which are 65.29% higher than refunds issued during the same period in the preceding year.
  • The growth rate for corporate income tax (CIT) and personal income tax (PIT) in terms of gross revenue collections stood at 25.95% and 44.37% (including security transaction tax), respectively.
  • After refunds, net growth in CIT collections is 32.73% and that of PIT collections (including STT) is 28.32%.

  • Among others, possible slowdown in major trade partners, inflationary pressures and tight monetary policies around the world could also offset the exports gain, Export-Import Bank of India (Exim Bank) said in its quarterly data.

  • The RIL arm will also buy polyester business of Shubhlaxmi Polytex Limited for Rs 70 crore.
  • The aggregate value of the two acquisitions is Rs 1,592 crore by way of slump sale on a going concern basis, RIL said in a regulatory filing to the stock exchanges.
  • The acquisitions are subject to the approval of the Competition Commission of India and the respective lenders of Shubhalakshmi Polyesters Limited (SPL) and SPTex (Shubhlaxmi Polytex Limited).
  • SPL has a continuous polymerisation capacity of 2,52,000 MT/Annum and manufactures polyester fibre, yarns and textile grade chips through direct polymerisation route as well as extruder spinning with value addition through texturising.
  • It has two manufacturing facilities situated at Dahej (Gujarat) and Silvassa (Dadra and Nagar Haveli).
  • SPTex has a texturised yarn manufacturing facility at Dahej.
