- The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved the project on Green Energy Corridor (GEC) Phase-II – Inter-State Transmission System (ISTS) for 13 gigawatt renewable energy project in Ladakh.
- The project is targeted to be set up by financial 2029-30 with a total estimated cost of Rs 20,773.70 crore and central financial assistance at 40 per cent of the project cost – Rs 8,309.48 crore.
- Keeping in view the complex terrain, adverse climatic conditions and defence sensitivities of the Ladakh region, Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) will be the implementing agency for this project.
- The transmission line for evacuating this to-be-produced power will pass through Himachal Pradesh and Punjab up to Kaithal in Haryana, where it will be integrated with the national grid.
- An interconnection is also planned from this project in Leh to the existing Ladakh grid so as to ensure a reliable power supply to Ladakh.
- The project will contribute to achieving the target of 500 GW of installed electricity capacity target from non-fossil fuels by the year 2030.
- Prime Minister Modi, during his Independence Day Speech in 2020, announced the setting up of a 7.5 GW solar Park in Ladakh.
- After an extensive field survey, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) prepared a plan to set up a 13 GW renewable energy generation capacity along with a 12 GWh battery energy storage system in Pang, Ladakh
- India aims to meet its 50 per cent energy needs through renewable sources by 2030.
- The government will spend Rs 3,760 crore as viability gap funding and it will be a 100 per cent central grant. The viability gap funding is capped at 40 per cent of the total capital cost of the project.
- Viability gap funding is given to support infrastructure projects that are economically justified but fall marginally short of finances. At the COP26 summit in Glasgow in 2021, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had committed to an ambitious five-part “Panchamrit” pledge, including reaching 500 GW of non-fossil electricity capacity, to generate half of all energy requirements from renewables, to reduce emissions by 1 billion tons by 2030.
India also aims to reduce the emissions intensity of GDP by 45 per cent. Finally, India commits to net-zero emissions by 2070
Centre approves setting up of Khelo India State Excellence Centre at Spithuk in Leh district of Ladakh
- In Ladakh, the newly constructed open stadium located at Spithuk in the Leh district has received approval from the Central Government for the establishment of the Khelo India State Excellence Center (KISCE) focusing on athletics, boxing, and archery.

Cabinet approves Productivity Linked Bonus (PLB) of Rs 1968.87 Crores for railway employees
- The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has approved Productivity Linked Bonus (PLB) equivalent to 78 days’ wages for the financial year 2022-23 to all eligible non-gazetted Railway employees namely Track maintainer, Loco Pilots, Train Managers (Guards), Station Masters, Supervisors, Technicians, Technician Helpers, Pointsman, Ministerial Staff and other Group ‘C’ staff (excluding RPF/RPSF personnel).
- In recognition of this excellent performance by the Railway staff, Union Government has approved payment of PLB of Rs 1968.87 crore to 11,07,346 railway employees.
- The performance of Railways in the year 2022-2023 was very good. Railways loaded a record cargo of 1509 Million Tonnes and carried nearly 6.5 Billion Passengers.
Cabinet approves release of an additional instalment of Dearness Allowance and Dearness Relief due from 01.07.2023
- The Union Cabinet, chaired by the Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi has approved to release an additional instalment of Dearness Allowance (DA) to Central Government employees and Dearness Relief (DR) to pensioners w.e.f. 01.07.2023 representing an increase of 4% over the existing rate of 42% of the Basic Pay/Pension, to compensate against price rise. This increase is in accordance with the accepted formula, which is based on the recommendations of the 7th Central Pay Commission.
- The combined impact on the exchequer on account of both Dearness Allowance and Dearness Relief would be Rs.12,857 crore per annum. This will benefit about 48.67 lakh Central Government employees and 67.95 lakh pensioners.
Cabinet approves Minimum Support Prices (MSP) for Rabi Crops for Marketing Season 2024-25
- The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by the Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, has approved the increase in the Minimum Support Prices (MSP) for all mandated Rabi Crops for Marketing Season 2024-25.
- Government has increased the MSP of Rabi Crops for Marketing Season 2024-25, to ensure remunerative prices to the growers for their produce.
- The absolute highest increase in MSP has been approved for lentil (masur) at Rs.425 per quintal followed by rapeseed & mustard at Rs.200 per quintal.
- For wheat and safflower, an increase of Rs.150 per quintal each has been approved. For barley and gram an increase of Rs.115 per quintal and Rs.105 per quintal respectively, has been approved.
- Creating “MSP more effective and transparent” was one of four mandatory sub-groups that the Minimum Support Price (MSP) committee established.
Sanjay Agrawal, a former agricultural secretary, oversaw the group that reviewed methods to “promote zero budget based farming,” “change” crop patterns to take into account the nation’s shifting demands, and make MSP more “effective and transparent.”

- Indian Competitors, who represented the country at WorldSkills Competition 2022, were selected via IndiaSkills Competition 2021.
- A total of 165 IndiaSkills National Competition winners were trained for the WorldSkills Competition at designated training venues developed in line with WorldSkills standards under the mentorship of WorldSkills India Experts and trainers.

- At the summit, the two sides adopted a 10-year roadmap to expand ties in the key areas of trade and economy, defence and security, climate change and people-to-people connections, among others.
- The Indian delegation at the dialogue was co-chaired by Piyush Srivastava, Joint Secretary (Europe West) at the MEA and Vishwesh Negi, Joint Secretary (International Cooperation) at the defence ministry.
- The UK delegation was co-chaired by Ben Mellor, India Director at the Indian Ocean Directorate in the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) and Lt General Rob Magowan, Deputy Chief of Defence Staff, Finance and Military Capability at the British Ministry of Defence.
