• May 4th, 1901 marked a tragic event at the Universal Colliery in Senghenydd, South Wales when an explosion took the lives of 81 coal miners.

• In recognition of the sacrifices made by coal miners and as a tribute to the unfortunate incident, the Indian government declared May 4th as National Coal Miners Day in 2010.

• The collaboration between Tech Mahindra and FIDE will also promote playing of chess in new and innovative formats, create opportunities for youth, and foster many champions globally.
• The partnership aims to leverage new-age technologies like 5G, artificial intelligence, virtual reality, among others, and explore innovative ways of promoting the game through interactive technology-enabled platforms.
• The world’s largest and first franchise-based chess league Global Chess Leaguewill be held in Dubai in association with Dubai Sports Council, the league’s Host Partner.
• The first edition of the Global Chess League, set to take place from June 21 to July 2, 2023, will feature six teams with six players each, including a minimum of two female players and one icon player per team. • Tokenisation masks the card details with a unique code making transactions more secure. Such transactions are two-factor authenticated, one at the time of tokenisation and later at the time of putting the OTP.

• Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar inaugurated National Conference on Agriculture for Kharif Campaign 2023-24. The objective of this conference was to review and assess the crop performance during the preceding crop seasons and fix crop-wise targets for the Kharif season.
• Target for the production of pulses has been fixed at 292.5 lakh tonnes compared to 278.1 lakh tonnes this year and oilseeds production will be increased from 400 lakh tonnes to 440 lakh tonnes in 2023-24.
• The target for millet production for 2023-24 has been set at 170 lakh tonnes from 159.1 lakh tonnes in 2022-23.
• Kharif crops, dependent on rainfall, are typically sown May-July and harvested from October-November. Rice, maize, and soybean are some of the kharif crops.

• The cabinet also gave its nod to introduce e-stamping in the State for the collection of stamp duty to promote ease of doing business. It decided to stop printing physical stamp papers with immediate effect and to authorize stamp vendors as authorized collection centres.
• It also decided to continue with a dual system of stamps, i.e. physical stamp paper and e-stamp paper from April 1, 2023, to March 31, 2024, and after April 1, 2024, physical stamp paper will be discontinued completely.
• The Cabinet decided to give Rs 600 in lieu of school uniforms through direct benefit transfer to all eligible students.
• It also decided to increase the honorarium of Nambardars in the Revenue Department from Rs 3,200 to Rs 3,700 per month as per the budget announcement, which will benefit about 3,177 Nambardars in the State.
• The Cabinet gave its nod to increase the honorarium of revenue chowkidars or part-time workers from Rs 5000 to Rs 5500 per month and it will benefit around 1950 revenue chowkidars or part-time workers.
• It decided to amend Swaran Jayanti Energy Policy, 2021 to make the transfer of land for setting up solar power and new and renewable energy projects on a lease or purchase or acquisition basis, subject to the applicable provisions of the various acts pertaining to the matter.

• Arunachal e-Seva will provide a single platform for all online services (88 services currently) being provided by the state government, the CM Dashboard 2.0 will monitor all schemes and their implementation status to ensure delivery on the ground.
• thee-Pragati (Pro-Active Governance and Timely Implementation) is a multi-modal platform to review and monitor programs and projects of central and state governments. It is an online system to monitor status of 14 CSS schemes.
• The Hospital Management Information System and e-Telemedicine will offer online services to the needy, wherein doctors will be available online for consultation, who will give prescriptions online if required. All District Hospitals are onboard the platform and work is on to integrate all health centers of the state.
