• A three member ECI delegation led by Chief Election Commissioner of India Shri Rajiv Kumar held interactions with Presiding Magistrate, Electoral Tribunal of Panama Mr. Alfredo JuncáWendehake on strengthening collaboration and knowledge exchange between the two Election Management Bodies (EMBs).
• Mr. Eduardo Valdes Escoffery, first vice presidential magistrate and Mr. Luis A. Guerra Morales, second vice presidential magistrate, ET of Panama were also present.
• ECI has been expanding its links and cooperation with foreign Election Management Bodies (EMBs) through its ‘International Cooperation Programme’.
• Having signed MoUs with Mexico, Brazil and Chile in the past years, this is the fourth MoU signed by ECI with an EMB in the Latin Americas region, with an overall 31 MoUs with EMBs and international organisations across the world.
• The Election Commission of India and the Electoral Tribunal of Panama are members of the Association of World Election Bodies (A-WEB).
• The signing ceremony was attended by representatives from both organisations. The ECI delegation will be attending the 11th Executive Board Meeting of A-WEB and an International Conference at Cartagena, Colombia.
• The Association of World Election Bodies (A-WEB) is the largest association of Election Management Bodies (EMBs) worldwide with 119 EMBs as Members & 20 Regional Associations/Organisations as Associate Members.

• Conducted in June 2023, Operation Broader Sword stopped more than 500 shipments of illicit, and potentially dangerous, unapproved prescription drugs, combination medical devices, and synthetic drug precursors from reaching American consumers
• The operation targeted packages entering the US from India through the New York’s John F Kennedy International Airport and Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport International Mail Facilities (IMFs) from June 12-23.
• During the operation, investigators examined over 1500 shipments originating in India and took action on approximately 500 products, including illicit and illegal medications intended to treat or mitigate serious diseases.
• Many shipments were determined to have included opioid and other controlled substance drug products.
• Operation Broader Sword built upon the success of Operation Broadsword which also targeted mail parcels which comprised illicit medical products from India was carried out in 2020.
• This operations prevented shipments of shipments of illicit, and potentially dangerous, unapproved prescription drugs and combination medical devices from reaching customers and provided leads on individuals that facilitated additional law enforcement follow up in India and the US.

  The addition will further bolster the aerial surveillance capability of maritime areas of responsibilities of the ICG.
• The Dornier aircraft are being indigenously manufactured at HAL (Transport Aircraft Division), Kanpur and will significantly contribute in achieving Aatmanirbharta in defence, in consonance with the ‘Make in India’ initiative of the Government.
• In March, the defence ministry had signed a contract for procurement of six Dornier-228 aircraft for the Indian Air Force (IAF) from HAL at a cost of ₹667 crore.
• The Dornier aircraft is a highly versatile multi-purpose light transport aircraft.

• The NCC Integrated Software, developed in partnership with Bhaskaracharya Institute for Space Applications and Geo Informatics (BISAG), is a single window interactive software for Cadets, designed on the ‘Entry to Exit Model’.
• The NCC Integrated Software is based on the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision of “Once a Cadet always a cadet”, and will digitalize the entire process from the stage of enrolment as a cadet in NCC till exit registration as alumni. This will enable seamless issue of certificates, creation of an all India database of NCC cadets at the time of their employment.
• During this event, the NCC and State Bank of India (SBI) also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in the presence of RakshaMantri to open zero balance accounts of all NCC Cadets with debit card, chequebook & passbook facility under SBI’s “PahliUdaan” scheme.
• About 5 lakh cadets will be benefitted by this MoU every year.
• The account will remain functional till completion of training or attaining 18 years of age whichever is later.
• This will not only introduce the cadets to the national banking system but also provide them with a ready platform to avail benefit of other govt schemes through DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer) of funds into their accounts.
• Under the DBT initiative of the Government, the Ministry of Defence has reformed the physical uniform distribution process to make it more transparent and seamless, allowing direct bank transfer of uniform allowance in the bank accounts of the NCC cadets.
• It will replace the existing central procurement and distribution process. Uniform allowance towards provisioning of NCC uniforms will now be transferred into these bank accounts of cadets covering the remotest parts of the country.

• The Skye UTM system will support drone operations in recreational as well as professional services ranging from delivery to agriculture, and surveillance.
• The UTM system implementation in Himachal Pradesh will be done in three phases.
• Integration of government-registered drones, pilot training and open registration for private drones in the Shimla district will be covered in the first phase while phase II expands to larger areas, integrating manned traffic from airports and helipads with UTM.
• Phase III focuses on implementing UTM in the remaining districts based on priority and departmental requirements.
