  • Following the rate hike trend, ICICI Bank also has hiked fixed deposit (FD) interest rates for amounts below Rs 2 crore on select tenors by up to 40 basis points.
  • The new rates are effective from August 19, 2022.
  • ICICI Bank will now offer interest rates between 2.75 percent and 6.10 percent for tenors from 7 days to 10 years for regular citizens.
  • According to the bank website, term deposits with a maturity of one year to two years will now fetch 5.50 percent interest from earlier 5.35 percent, an increase of 15 basis points, while those with a maturity of two years one day to 3 years will fetch 5.60 percent interest from 5.50 percent.
  • ICICI Bank will now offer a 6.10 percent interest rate on three-years one-day to five years fixed deposits from 5.7 percent, an increase of 40 bps, and 5.90 percent interest rate five years one day to ten years, the interest rate offered from earlier 5.75 percent.
  • The bank is offering 6.10 percent on tax saving FDs.

  • Bank of Maharashtra (BoM) has increased its marginal cost of funds-based lending rate (MCLR) by up to 25 basis points (bps) across all tenors with effect from August 18.
  • Following the MCLR hike, interest rate on corporate loans will go up.
  • Most of the corporate loans are linked to MCLR.
  • With the latest MCLR increase, the one-year and six-months MCLR are now at 7.60 per cent (against 7.50 per cent earlier) and 7.50 per cent (7.40 per cent), respectively.
  • The new rates in other tenors are: 7.10 per cent for overnight (against 6.90 per cent earlier), 7.25 per cent one-month (7.00 per cent earlier), and 7.40 per cent for three-months (7.20 per cent earlier).

  • India’s gold imports, which have a bearing on the country’s Current Account Deficit (CAD), rose 6.4 percent to USD 12.9 billion from April-July this fiscal due to healthy demand, according to government data.
  • The imports stood at USD 12 billion during the same period a year ago.
  • In July 2022, however, imports of precious metals fell sharply by 43.6 percent to USD 2.4 billion, as per the latest data released by the commerce ministry.
  • An increase in gold and oil imports during the first four months of this fiscal contributed to a record trade deficit of USD 30 billion, against USD 10.63 billion in April-July 2021.
  • India is the world’s second-biggest gold consumer after China. The imports mainly take care of the demand from the jewelry industry.
  • The gems and jewelry exports during the first four months of the current fiscal grew by about 7 percent to USD 13.5 billion.
  • A wider trade gap during 2021-22 expanded the country’s current account deficit at 1.2 percent of GDP against a surplus of 0.9 percent in FY21, according to the Reserve Bank data released in June.
  • For the January-March 2022 quarter, the CAD narrowed on a sequential basis to USD 13.4 billion or 1.5 percent of GDP against USD 22.2 billion or 2.6 percent of GDP in the October-December 2021 quarter.

  • The shares were picked up by the Government of Singapore and SBI Mutual Fund among others, bulk deal data with the BSE showed.
  • Blackstone, which holds a stake in Sona BLW through an entity called Singapore VII Topco III PTE. Ltd, offloaded a total of 7.94 crore shares or 13.6 per cent stake in the company, the data showed.
  • The stocks were sold on an average price of Rs 509.10 on the BSE, a discount of 5.6 per cent from closing price of Rs 539.10.
  • At this price, the transaction size is aggregated to Rs 4,044 crore.

  • China’s biggest hydropower developer, Three Gorges International Corp, was previously lined up to develop the West Seti plant, but Nepal scrapped the deal in 2017 amid haggling over the terms.
