- The Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) has been taking the help of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) in manufacturing ‘Make in India’ K9 Scent Pads which will be produced at 1/100th of the cost of those being procured from abroad.
- This initiative of ITBP to approach DRDO would help all Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) and State Police Organisations and Security Forces including the Indian Army in having specific explosive and narcotic scent kits to enhance the olfactory conditioning of service of K9s or police dogs in the detection of explosives and narcotics.
- The K9 Scent Pads being used by the dog squad teams of all CAPFs and other police organisations are still procured from foreign countries.
- For the project, the DRDO has been roping in their world-renowned Biochemistry and Material Physics experts at the DRDO HQ New Delhi and DRDO Gwalior to conduct a pioneering Research and Development to manufacture K9 Target Odour Scent Pads.
- This would be a unique never before attempted “Make in India for India” project to break the foreign monopoly.

- While one lakh will be set up by the Maharashtra Energy Development Authority (MEDA), the remaining ones will come from the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (MSEDCL).
- The Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthaan Mahabhiyan (KUSUM) will cover necessary parts of this programme of installing the solar agri pumps, he said, without giving details of how many pumps have been installed so far in the state.

- Ahead of the Diwali festival, the Cabinet approved a 4 percent additional installment of Dearness Allowance and Dearness Relief to central government employees and pensioners with effect from July 1, 2022.
- The move will benefit about 41.85 lakh central government employees and 69.76 lakh pensioners.
- The central government employees and pensioners will become entitled to a higher amount of Dearness Allowance (DA) and Dearness Relief (DR) respectively, with effect from July 1, 2022, said I&B Minister Anurag Thakur.
- The additional financial implications on account of the increase of DA to employees are estimated at Rs 6,591.36 crore per annum, and Rs 4,394.24 crore in the financial year 2022-23 (8 months from July 2022 to February 2023).
- The additional financial implications in the case of pensioners are estimated at Rs 6,261.20 crore per annum, and Rs 4,174.12 crore in the financial year 2022-23.
- The combined impact on the exchequer on account of both Dearness Allowance and Dearness Relief would be of the order of Rs 12,852.56 crore per annum and Rs 8,568.36 crore in the current financial year.

- The Union Cabinet has approved Rs 10,000 crore for the redevelopment of the New Delhi, Ahmedabad and Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus railway stations, Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur.
- Briefing the media, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said the design of these stations will be in tune with the cityscape so that it becomes an integral part of the city.
- As many as 199 stations with a footfall of 50 lakh per day are planned to be redeveloped in the first phase.
- While the tender for 47 stations is out, work is underway at 32 stations, Vaishnaw said, adding the target is to complete the redevelopment of the New Delhi station in three-and-a-half years.
- The other two railway stations will be redeveloped in two-and-half years.
- The railway minister said the design will include a spacious roof plaza with all passenger amenities in one place along with spaces for retail, cafeterias, and recreational facilities.
- The stations in these cities will be connected on both sides of railway tracks.
- Facilities like a food court, waiting lounge, playing area for children and a place to sell local products will be made available.

- The infrastructure investment trust (InvIT) is planning to raise Rs 2,000 crore from investors to acquire two to three road assests from its parent firm the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).
- Set up last year by the NHAI, InvITs are collective investment vehicles that allow direct investments from individual and institutional investors in infrastructure projects, and give them a small portion of the income in returns.
- InVIT was set up by the NHAI to monetise its assets and raise funds to build highways.
- NHAI has raised Rs 6,000 crore through its InVIT, in which CPP Investments and Ontario Teachers’ Pension Fund picked up 25 per cent each as anchor investors.

- He also stressed the importance of addressing environmental and climate objectives alongside economic development.
- After the Roundtable, the Minister also had a bilateral meeting with United Arab Emirates, UAE, Minister of State for Foreign Trade Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi.
- In the meeting, both the leaders discussed issues relating to upcoming Conference of Parties, COP 27, COP 28, MoU on Climate Actions between India and UAE, and global initiatives spearheaded by these countries for combating climate change.
