5. Who is the world’s largest derivatives exchange for fourth straight year in 2022?

- The National Stock Exchange of India (NSE) has again emerged as the world’s largest derivatives exchange in 2022, in terms of the number of contracts traded, according to the Futures Industry Association (FIA).
- This is the fourth consecutive year when the exchange earned the top spot, the NSE said in a statement.
- In addition, the exchange was ranked third in the equity segment by the number of trades (electronic order book) in 2022, an advancement from the previous year when it was in the fourth position, as per statistics maintained by the World Federation of Exchanges (WFE).
- The calendar year witnessed the benchmark equity index the Nifty 50 touching lifetime high of 18,887.60. Further, significant strengthening in liquidity was seen in several product categories, including equity, equity derivatives and currency derivatives.

- SBM Bank (India) said that it has raised Rs 99 crore through the issuance of the second tranche of Basel-III compliant tier II bonds on 24 January 2023.
- The bank has raised the entire corpus from the country’s largest financial institution, the LIC of India.
- With this fresh round of capital raising from multiple investors, SBM Bank India now has raised a total of Rs 224 crore to date through Basel III compliant tier II bonds, the company stated in a statement.
- Mandar Pitale, Head- Treasury, SBM Bank India said, “We are extremely proud to have India’s largest public sector insurance company the LIC of India as the investor in our fund-raising exercise through bonds.”
- Pitale added that LIC is a very respected name in the insurance space and its decision to subscribe to the entire tranche of our bonds shows its faith in the Bank’s overall ability to perform in a tight-leash private banking space.
- “The funds will definitely help us in our business expansion plans and allow us to capture the emerging growth opportunities in the country,” added Pitale.

- State-run Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) has started the export of its special aviation fuel for small aircraft and unmanned aerial vehicles (drones), AVGAS 100 LL.
- “IOC Chairman S M Vaidya, flagged off the first export consignment of AVGAS 100 LL to Papua New Guinea from GTI Terminal of JNPT.
- The consignment consisted of 16 kilo litres (KL) of AVGAS packed in 80 barrels.
- This is the first ever instance of India exporting AVGAS,” the PSU oil marketing company (OMC) said in a statement.
- By exporting the special aviation fuel, which was launched in September last year, the country’s largest auto fuel retailer aims to tap the $1.92 billion aviation gasoline (AV Gas) market.
- AV Gas market is expected to grow from the current $1.92 billion to $2.71 billion by 2029.
