Importance of Ramsar Sites in India 2024
The Ramsar Convention is exceptional in that it is still the only international agreement whose goal is to protect and conserve a specific type of ecosystem, which includes plant life and animal life (in particular, waterfowl), all of which depend on wetland habitat.
- The Ramsar Convention’s goal is to promote sustainable development globally by conserving and wisely using all wetlands through local, regional, national, and international action.
- The Ramsar Convention, which is carried out through Ramsar Sites in India, has two goals: to stop wetlands from being invaded and lost, and to preserve wetlands through sustainable usage. It is not a legally binding treaty and is not included in treaties of the UN or UNESCO.
