  • International Students’ Day is celebrated on November 17, the anniversary of the Nazi invasion of a university in Prague in 1939.
  • The Nazis imprisoned nearly a thousand students, closed the university, and killed and tortured several others.
  • The aim of the day is to honour those students and to raise awareness of the challenges facing us today.
  • Originally intended to honour the more than 1,200 students of the University of Prague who lost their lives in World War II, International Students’ Day has evolved into an opportunity for higher education institutions around the world to take pride in their significant international student populations and the positive work they do in their local communities.

National Epilepsy Day – November 17:

  • National Epilepsy Day is celebrated every year in India on November 17 to raise awareness around the brain disorder and bust myths surrounding the disease
  • The day was first observed by the Epilepsy Foundation of India and was established by Dr Nirmal Surya.
  • The aim of this day was to help needy people who are not able to afford treatment for the disease and also to bust myths surrounding epilepsy, create awareness around symptoms and management of the disease
  • According to WHO, around 50 million people worldwide are affected by epilepsy and India accounts for nearly 10-20 percent (5-10 million) of the global burden of epilepsy.
  • About 70 percent of people with epilepsy are able to successfully manage epilepsy seizures with medication and certain types of surgery.
  • Epilepsy is a brain disorder that can cause seizures due to abnormal brain activity or temporary changes in the brain’s electrical functioning.

  • Earlier in January 2021, the central bank constituted a working group on ‘digital lending, including lending through online platforms and mobile apps (WGDL).

  • Teen users will receive an AI literacy guide as well as a quick on-boarding video to teach them about Bard’s underlying technology and using generative AI tools critically.

  • Representing Sri Lanka, personnel from the 53rd Infantry Division will actively participate in the exercise.
  • Additionally, 15 members from the Indian Air Force and five from the Sri Lankan Air Force are also partaking in this joint endeavor.
  • The primary objective of the exercise is to collectively practice sub conventional operations under Chapter VII of the United Nations Charter, focusing on coordinated responses during counter-terrorist operations. Tactical activities, including raids, search and destroy missions, and heliborne operations, will be rehearsed
  • The overarching objective is to enhance troop interoperability while minimizing risks to life and property, aligning with the UN’s peacekeeping agenda.
  • The collaboration aims to strengthen defence cooperation between the Indian Army and the Sri Lankan Army, fostering closer ties between the two neighboring nations.

    • serious diseases grants up to the JCO rank for one time with maximum limit – Rs1,50,000
  • Among the beneficiaries are ex-servicemen, widows and their dependents who have availed the grant.
  • A grant of approximately Rs 250 crore was distributed to more than 99,000 beneficiaries in the financial year 2022-23.
