  • The Pune-headquartered Bajaj Finance has emerged as one the leading NBFCs, with the company reporting a net profit of ₹3,550.8 crore in the quarter ending September 2023, higher by 28 percent as compared to ₹2,781 crore in the year-ago period.
  • The NBFC’s non-adherence to the norms particularly includes the non-issuance of Key Fact Statements to the borrowers under these two lending products and the deficiencies in the Key Fact Statements issued in respect of other digital loans sanctioned by the company.
  • The restriction imposed on the two lending products will be “reviewed upon the rectification of the said deficiencies to the satisfaction of RBI“.
  • The guidelines comprise norms to protect borrowers, and digital lending platforms, including banks and NBFCs, are required to comply with them.

  • According to the agreement, Aequs will manufacture parts for the single-aisle family of aircraft, including parts with bench assembly for wings, fuselage, and pylons.
  • The contract was signed by Gunnar Hansen, Head of Strategic Procurement, Detail Parts, Airbus Aerostructures, and Nils Witt, Chief Procurement Officer, Airbus Aerostructures, and Mohamed Bouzidi, President Aerospace, Aequs at Belagavi in Karnataka recently.
  • Airbus also signed contracts with Dynamatic, Gardner and Mahindra Aerospace for the supply of airframe and wing parts across Airbus’ A320neo, A330neo, and A350 programs.
  • Airbus has already procured components and services amounting to $750 million every year from India. The company expects the latest rounds of contracts to add significantly to those volumes. Together with its supply chain, Airbus supports nearly 10,000 jobs in India. By 2025, this number should rise to about 15,000.

  • AWE (Atmospheric Waves Experiment) will study gravity waves, disturbances in Earth’s atmosphere akin to the waves created when a pebble plunks into a pond. (Gravity waves are very different than gravitational waves, which are ripples in the fabric of space-time caused by the acceleration of massive objects such as black holes and neutron stars).
  • ILLUMA-T (Integrated Laser Communications Relay Demonstration Low Earth Orbit User Modem and Amplifier Terminal) will test high-speed communications in collaboration with NASA’s Laser Communications Relay Demonstration (LCRD) mission, which launched in December 2021.

  • India and the US are among the 14 supply chain resilience partners of IPEF along with Australia, Brunei Darussalam, Fiji Indonesia, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
  • This global supply chain resilience agreement is seen as a counter to reducing massive reliance on China, particularly after severe supply disruptions after the Covid shock.
  • Under the proposed agreement, the IPEF partners seek to provide a framework to build their collective understanding of significant supply chain risks; improve crisis coordination and response to supply chain disruptions.
  • It will also seek to ensure that worker and the businesses, especially micro-, small-, and medium-sized enterprises benefit from resilient, robust, and efficient supply chains; ensure the availability of a sufficient number of skilled workers in critical sectors and key goods, including by upskilling and reskilling workers, among others.

Shri Piyush Goyal participates in the 3rd in-person Ministerial meeting of the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework (IPEF):

  • Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution and Textiles Piyush Goyal participated in the third in-person IPEF Ministerial meeting.
  • During this Ministerial meeting, the first-of-its-kind IPEF Supply Chain Resilience Agreement was signed by the Minister along with the Ministers from other IPEF partner countries to make IPEF supply chains more resilient, robust, and well-integrated, and contribute towards economic development and progress of the region as a whole.
  • During these Ministerial meetings, the Minister, inter-alia, discussed bilateral collaboration on trade, commerce and investment, enhanced business engagements, WTO matters, and other issues of mutual interest.
  • The Minister and the US Secretary of Commerce co-chaired a kick-off industry roundtable titled, “Decoding the “Innovation Handshake”: US-India Entrepreneurship Partnership” which was co-hosted by the U.S.-India Business Council (USIBC) and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and supported by National Association of Software and Service Companies (NASSCOM) and Startup India.
