  • Under the leadership of the then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, India conducted a series of five nuclear bomb tests (Pokhran-II) in May 1998.
  • Following the success of Pokhran-II, the government declared May 11 as National Technology Day in 1998. The first Nuclear test was conducted in May 1974.
  • In 1998, India became the world’s sixth nuclear test. The country was put under heavy sanctions by the US government following the nuclear test.
  • However, India didn’t back down under the influence of western powers and went ahead with the test.
  • Since then, May 11 is being celebrated as National Technology Day to acknowledge the contribution of scientists and engineers in the development of the country.
  • Apart from this, India also tested its first indigenous aircraft ‘Hansa-3’ on this day from Bengaluru.
  • A successful test firing of the Trishul missile was conducted by India’s Defence Research and Development Organisation on May 11, 1998, following the testing of Hansa-3.

  • Dhar, executive director and chief operating officer, has been part of NIIF since 2017.
  • The government had set up the Rs 40,000-crore NIIF in December 2016 as an investment vehicle for funding commercially viable greenfield, brownfield and stalled projects. It was envisioned as a mother fund with several sectoral feeder funds.
    Government capital in NIIF covers three funds — Master Fund, Fund of Funds, and Strategic Opportunities Fund (together referred to as NIIF) — all managed by the same investment manager (NIIF Limited).
  • The corpus of NIIF is proposed to be Rs 40,000 crore wherein the government intends to invest 49 per cent. It will raise third-party capital for the remaining Rs 20,000 crore from long-term international investors, such as sovereign wealth funds, insurance and pension funds, and endowments.

  • The Shenzhou-15 crew have almost completed their six-month-long mission and will greet the Shenzhou-16 astronauts aboard Tiangong in the new future. Shenzhou-16 will launch from Jiuquan in the Gobi Desert on a Long March 2F in coming weeks.
  • The flight was the seventh of the 53.1-meters-long Long March 7, which was designed specifically to launch Tianzhou cargo spacecraft. A variant with an added third stage is used for missions to geostationary transfer orbit.
  • The rocket was provided by the China Academy of Launch Vehicle Technology (CALT), while the spacecraft was designed and manufactured by the China Academy of Space Technology (CAST).
  • China actively developed its space program in 2022 and finished the main construction of its orbital station — Tiangong. The basic structure of the T-shaped station consists of the Tianhe core module and two laboratory modules — Wentian and Mengtian — docked to it.
  • The station can host up to six people at the same time during a crew rotation change.
  • The operational life of the station is 15 years and should end in 2038.

  • The Union government has notified lowering of the threshold for e-invoicing from Rs 10 crore to Rs 5 crore following which it will be mandatory for smaller businesses to carry business transactions via e-invoices from August 1, 2023.
  • As per Rule 48(4) of CGST Rules, notified class of registered persons have to prepare invoice by uploading specified particulars of invoice (in FORM GST INV-01) on Invoice Registration Portal (IRP) and obtain an Invoice Reference Number (IRN).
  • After following above ‘e-invoicing’ process, the invoice copy containing inter alia, the IRN (with QR Code) issued by the notified supplier to buyer is commonly referred to as ‘e-invoice’ in GST.
  • In exercise of the powers of the Central Goods and Services Tax Rules, 2017, the government, on the recommendations of the Council, made the amendment in the notification.
  • Under the Goods and Services Tax (GST) law, e-invoicing for business-to-business (B2B) transactions was made mandatory for companies with turnover of over Rs 500 crore from October 1, 2020, which was then extended to those with turnover of over Rs 100 crore effective January 1, 2021.
  • From April 1, 2021, companies with turnover of over Rs 50 crore were generating B2B e-invoices, and the threshold was brought down to Rs 20 crore beginning April 1, 2022. From October 1, 2022, the threshold was further lowered to Rs 10 crore.

  • Covering as many as 1578 healthcare procedures in more than 300 empanelled hospitals within the State and all Ayushman Bharat-empanelled hospitals across the country, AyushmanAsom – MukhyaMantri Jan ArogyaYojana shall initially be covering approximately 26 lakh beneficiary families which shall in phases go up to 32 lakh families.
  • The government has also launched an e-KYC drive under AB-PMJAY and AA-MMJAY for NFSA beneficiaries

  • According to the CBDT, “Under the provisions of the Income-tax Act, 1961(the ‘Act’) every person who has been allotted a PAN as of 1st July 2017 and is eligible to obtain an Aadhaar Number, is required to intimate his Aadhaar to the prescribed authority on or before 31st March 2023, on payment of a prescribed fee.”
  • If the PAN-Aadhaar link is completed on or after July 1, 2022, a Rs.1,000 fee will be levied.
