- The day is observed to commemorate the Constituent Assembly’s adoption of the tricolour in its current form in 1947, a month before our country gained Independence from British rule.
History
- The National Flag was first designed in 1923 by PingaliVenkayya.
- The initial flag design by Venkayya had only two colours — red representing Hindus in the country and green representing the Muslim population.
- However, Gandhiji asked Venkayya to add a white colour representing peace and the remaining communities of India and also suggested adding a running wheel to symbolise the progress of the Nation.
- The Constituent Assembly on July 22, 1947, approved this flag, which was also called the Swaraj flag.
- After India received its freedom, the pattern of the flag remained the same, and the running wheel was replaced with the Ashok Chakra with 24 equally-spaced spokes.

- ABVKY was launched on a pilot basis for two years with an aim to provide relief to those who were left unemployed during the Covid-19 pandemic
- Under this scheme, insured people are paid unemployment allowance at 50 per cent of wages for three months who lost their jobs for various reasons. People whose interests are protected by an insurance policy come under the category of insured.
- Employees who are covered under the ESI scheme can avail the benefits of ABVKY.
Eligibility criteria for Atal BeemitVyaktiKalyanYojana:
- Employees working with private companies, factories and industries can avail the benefits of ABVKY. Either an ESI card has to be made or benefits can be claimed with the help of documents given by the company.
- Only those people can avail the benefits of ABVKY whose monthly salary is less than Rs 21,000 and in the case of specially disabled people, the limit is Rs 25,000.
- The insured person must have insurable employment for a minimum time period of two years before his/her employment.
- The insured person should also have contributed to ESI not less than 78 days in the contribution period immediately preceding unemployment to avail the benefits of the scheme.
- As per the government notification, the contribution should have been paid or payable by the employer.
- If the person has lost his/her job due to punishment, misconduct, superannuation or voluntary retirement, then the benefits of ABVKY cannot be availed.
- The Aadhaar and bank account of the insured person must be linked with the data base and the claims can be filed only by workers.
- The claim will be due 30 days after the date of unemployment. Earlier, the limit was 90 days.

- It will help researchers and think tanks to develop user-specific scenarios and the option of customised applications on the basis of share of industry/services/agriculture, population, the pace of urbanisation, end-use energy demand etc.
- IESS 2047 is a user-friendly interactive tool that can help ministries/ departments to develop a variety of energy transition scenarios to achieve net-zero. The tool is flexible enough to provide many permutations and combinations of net-zero pathways. It provides capabilities to compute the energy needs and estimates of the country and hence reduce India’s dependency on external agencies for the estimates.
- Designed with the help of IIT Bombay, the revamped IESS 2047 will be updated on yearly basis. The baseline has been standardised at 2020 and calibrated up to 2022.

- The first 16 C295 aircraft will be delivered to the IAF by Airbus in flyaway condition from Spain.
- Remaining forty planes are to be built in India, and work on domestic production is in full swing
- The delivery of first C295 to India will set in motion a crucial ‘Make in India’ project worth ₹21,935 crore to equip the IAF with 56 such aircraft.
- The first C295 aircraft has completed its maiden flight in May and second one is in final assembly stage at Airbus’s Seville facility and will be delivered to IAF in May 2024, said the report.
- Two years ago, India’s defence ministry had signed the contract with Airbus to boost self-reliance in the defence manufacturing sector. Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL) and Airbus are jointly executing the project.
- Six IAF pilots and 20 technicians have been trained at the Seville facility, Jorge Tamarit, head of the C295 India programme
- Another 18 pilots and 60 technicians will be trained at Seville next year

- Odisha Cabinet chaired by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik approved a proposal to extend the Canal Lining and System Rehabilitation Programme (CLSRP) for a further period of five years
- the scheme would be extended from the financial year 2023-24 to 2027-28 with an outlay of Rs 2,032.92 crore.
- The scheme was launched by the government during 2013-14 and got positive responses from the public as the tail end of canals were getting sufficient water
Under the scheme canal lining of 676.04 km was done in the first phase and 307.03 km was taken up in the second phase - The cabinet decided to undertake canal lining work of 287.62 km in major and medium irrigation projects, 24.58 km at canal lining work in minor irrigation projects, new lining work of 660.28 km of lining in major and medium irrigation projects and 2995.34 km of canal lining work in minor irrigation projects.
- The scheme will be implemented as MukhyaMantri canal lining Yojana.It will increase water use efficiently of the canals and stabilization of irrigation potential through improved service delivery in the whole system
- Odisha Cabinet, led by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, approved Mission Shakti Scooter Yojana, under which interest subvention on bank loans up to Rs 1 lakh will be provided to beneficiaries to purchase a scooter.
- Around 75,000 SHG community support staff and nearly 1,25,000 SHG federation leaders will be benefited under the new scheme. The State government has made budgetary provision of Rs 528.55 crore for execution of the scheme over a period of next five years
