  • RBI imposed a monetary penalty of Rs 2.00 lakh on The Patan Urban Co-operative Bank Limited, Satara, Maharashtra for contravention of the provisions of Section 26A read with Section 56 of the Banking Regulation Act, 1949 (BR Act) and for non-compliance with the directions issued by RBI on ‘The Depositor Education and Awareness Fund’.
  • The Reserve Bank imposed a monetary penalty of Rs 1.00 lakh on Pune Merchants Co-operative Bank Limited, Pune for non-compliance with the directions issued by RBI on ‘Maintenance of Deposit Accounts – Primary (Urban) Co-operative Banks’.
  • The RBI imposed a monetary penalty of Rs 1.00 lakh on Pune Municipal Corporation Servant’s Co-operative Urban Bank Limited, Pune for non-compliance with RBI directions on ‘Maintenance of Deposit Accounts – Primary (Urban) Co-operative Banks’.
  • These penalties have been imposed in the exercise of powers conferred on RBI under certain provisions of the Banking Regulation Act, 1949.

  • The rockets would be procured by the Indian Army from indigenous sources only and two main contenders include the Economic Explosives Limited of Solar Industries and The Munitions India Limited
  • The trials of the Pinaka rockets have also been conducted by the forces in Pokhran firing ranges in Rajasthan.
  • As part of larger artillery modernisation plans, the army has a requirement of 22 regiments of the Pinaka MBRL.

  • An investment of Rs 20,000 crore is being planned to develop a greenfield airport at Parandur, which would annually handle 10 crore people.
  • It will have two runways, terminal buildings, taxiways, an apron, and a cargo terminal.
  • The Chennai airport handles around 2.2 crore people annually.
  • After the ongoing modernisation work, it can handle 3.5 crore people a year for the next seven years.

Greenfield Airport:

  • Greenfield airports are aviation facilities that are constructed entirely from scratch on land that has never been used for aviation.
  • The development of greenfield airports is necessitated by the increase in air-traffic demand at the existing airports, the rise in the level of urbanization, and the growth of small towns into bigger cities.
  • Government of India has formulated a Greenfield Airports Policy, 2008 which provides detailed guidelines, procedures and steps related to construction of Greenfield airports across the country.
  • Under the GFA Policy, the project proponent- an airport developer or the respective State Government willing to establish a Greenfield airport is required to send a proposal to the Ministry of Civil Aviation in the prescribed format for 2-stage approval process i.e., ‘Site Clearance’ followed by ‘In-Principle’ approval.

Information about Greenfield Airport as on March 2023:

  • Under the GFA policy, Government of India has accorded ‘In-Principle’ approval for setting up of 21 Greenfield Airports namely, Mopa in Goa, Navi Mumbai, Shirdi and Sindhudurg in Maharashtra, Kalaburagi, Vijayapura, Hassan and Shivamogga in Karnataka, Dabra (Gwalior) in Madhya Pradesh, Kushinagar and Noida (Jewar) in Uttar Pradesh, Dholera and Hirasar in Gujarat, Karaikal in Puducherry, Dagadarthi, Bhogapuram and Orvakal (Kurnool) in Andhra Pradesh, Durgapur in West Bengal, Pakyong in Sikkim, Kannur in Kerala and Itanagar in Arunachal Pradesh across the country.
  • Out of these, 11 Greenfield airports viz. Durgapur, Shirdi, Kannur, Pakyong, Kalaburagi, Orvakal (Kurnool), Sindhudurg, Kushinagar, Itanagar, Mopa and Shivamogga have been operationalised.
  • Government of India has also granted the first stage clearance i.e. site clearance for construction of three Greenfield airports namely Alwar in Rajasthan, Singrauli in Madhya Pradesh and Mandi in Himachal Pradesh.
