  • Terbutaline is an ingredient in many cough syrups, but it is in the World Anti-Doping Agency’s prohibited list under specified substances.
  • The ADAP also penalised Radhika Prakash Awati, a Maharashtra-born fencing international who represents Kerala, with a two-year ban.
  • She had been banned for 15 months by the disciplinary panel earlier for a methylprednisolone (corticosteroid) violation.
  • Radhika had been tested during Senior National championship on March 26, 2023 in Pune, where she had won the gold medal.

  • SoftBank Group company Svf Growth (Singapore) Pte Ltd held a 2.2% stake in Zomato as of September. It had acquired the stake in lieu of its holding in quick-delivery startup Grofers, which Zomato acquired last year and renamed as Blinkit.
  • Shortly after, Svf Growth sold a 1.17% stake in the food-delivery company in a block deal for Rs940 crore.
  • Citigroup Global Markets India Pvt Ltd is the bookrunner for the sale.
  • Tiger Global, too, has been offloading its stake in Zomato, whose share price has more than doubled this year.
  • Internet Fund III Pte Ltd, the venture capital fund managed by Tiger Global Management, offloaded 12.35 shares, or a 1.44% stake, at an average price of Rs91.01 per share in bulk deal on BSE.

  • At the 2023 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28), India has officially become a member of the Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) consortium, an ambitious initiative launched by the Global Leadership Council of the Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP).
  • The primary objective of the consortium is to achieve a combined commitment of 5 GW of Battery Energy Storage Systems by the end of 2024.
  • By 2026, GEAPP aims to reach a 1 GW BESS target for distribution companies in India.
  • The first BESS project, with a capacity of 20 MW/40 MWh, was recently awarded to IndiGrid in Delhi.
  • GEAPP is set to offer subsidized debt financing covering 70 percent of the overall capital investment, while also providing crucial technical assistance to ensure the success of the project.

  • Hon’ble Vice Chairman along with Hon’ble Members of NITI Aayog inaugurated the Wall of Fame. The Wall of fame highlights the key milestones of Aspirational Blocks Programme and Aspirational Districts Programme with a vision to create Viksit Bharat by 2047.
  • It celebrates the achievements of the best performing Aspirational Blocks and Aspirational Districts in the country.

Rankings:

  • The blocks have also been geographically divided into six zones and two blocks from each zone have been given rankings.

Zone 1 – Hilly and North-eastern States as well as Islands

  • The first and second position went to Amri block, West Karbi Anglong, Assam and Ngopa block, Saitual Mizoram.

Zone 2 – The northern Indian states

  • Harraiya block, Basti, Uttar Pradesh and Virno block, Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh achieved the first and second spot.

Zone 3 – Southern states

  • Maski block, Raichur, Karnataka and Narnoor, Adilabad, Telangana were declared the top rankers.

Zone 4 – Western Indian States

  • Sironcha and Aheri blocks in Gadhichiroli district, Maharashtra emerged winners.

Zone 5 – Central India

  • Tirla block of Dhar district and Pati block of Barwani District, both in Madhya Pradesh as winners.

Zone 6 – Eastern India

  • Andar, Siwan, Bihar and Ramgarh in Dumka, Jharkhand as the top rankers.
  • The winners will be felicitated with a prize amount of Rs. 1.5 crores for top rank and Rs. 1 crores for second rank in all zonal categories.

The Aspirational Blocks Programme (ABP)

  • ABP was launched on January 7, 2023.
  • ABP focuses on improving governance to enhance the quality of life of citizens in the most difficult and relatively underdeveloped blocks of India.
  • 500 blocks from 329 districts across 27 states and 4 Union Territories of India are part of the programme.
  • The Programme strategy is based on convergence of existing schemes, defining outcomes, and monitoring them on a constant basis.
  • 40 key performance indicators (KPIs) were chosen to measure progress of the blocks which have been grouped into 5 themes.
  • The baseline data of March 31, 2023 and of the first quarter on June 30, 2023 of 500 Aspirational Blocks was sourced through Management Information System of 11 ministries.
  • The 1st Delta rank has been calculated on the basis of improvement made in the first quarter.
