- The Quit India Movement was approved during the AICC conference in Mumbai on 8 August 1942. On this date, the Bharat ChhodoAndolan or the Quit India Movement started officially.
- Mahatma Gandhi was the chairman of the All India Congress Committee and he decided to begin the movement at the Bombay Session of the conference.
- Mahatma Gandhi came up with the phrase “Do or Die” during the Quit India Movement.
“Quit India” was coined by Yusuf Meher Ali who was also a freedom fighter and served as Mumbai’s Mayor. - During the movement, parallel governments were set up in Ballia (Uttar Pradesh), Satara (Maharashtra), Tamluk (West Bengal), and Talcher (Odisha).
- The protestors demolished governmental structures and damaged railway tracks in many places.
- Numerous arrests were made following the protest. Many top leaders of Congress, including Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru and SardarVallabhbhai Patel, were also arrested.
- By the end of the year 1942, over 60,000 were imprisoned and hundreds of people died.

- Public sector banks (PSBs) have more than double profit of Rs 34,774 crore for the first quarter ended June 2023.
- During the April-June period of the previous fiscal, all 12 state-owned banks had recorded a total profit of Rs 15,306 crore, according to quarterly numbers published by public sector lenders.
- Most banks had recorded net interest margin (NIM) of over 3 per cent.
- Pune-based Bank of Maharashtra posted the highest NIM of 3.86 per cent, followed by Central Bank at 3.62 per cent and Indian Bank at 3.61 per cent during the quarter.
- During the first quarter, four lenders logged a profit of over 100 per cent.
- The highest percentage growth was recorded by Punjab National Bank, which earned a profit of Rs 1,255 crore against Rs 308 crore in the same quarter of the previous year, a growth of 307 per cent.
- It was followed by the State Bank of India (SBI), which recorded a 178 per cent bottom line growth at Rs 16,884 crore and the Bank of India with a 176 per cent surge, earned Rs 1,551 crore profit.
- Another five PSBs posted growth between 50 and 100 per cent. This pack was led by Bank of Maharashtra, which clocked a 95 per cent rise in net profit at Rs 882 crore.
- It was followed by Bank of Baroda recording a growth of 88 per cent to Rs 4,070 crore and UCO Bank by 81 per cent to Rs 581 crore.

- The Mizoram Urban Cooperative Development Bank Limited, Aizawl (the bank) was also penalised of ₹20,000 on for non-compliance with specific directions issued by the apex bank under Supervisory Action Framework (SAF) and certain provision of ‘RBI’s KYC directions.
- The apex bank further imposed a monetary penalty of ₹1.00 lakh on Shreeji Bhatia Cooperative Bank Ltd., Mumbai (the bank) for non-compliance with specific directions issued by RBI under the Supervisory Action Framework (SAF) and RBI’s KYC directions.
- The Reserve Bank also imposed a monetary penalty of ₹1.50 lakh on Shri VinayakSahakari Bank Ltd, Ahmedabad (Gujarat) for contravention of direction issued by RBI on ‘Placement of Deposits with Other Banks by Primary (Urban) Co-operative Banks (UCBs)’.

- The selected astronauts for Ax-4 will train with NASA and SpaceX which will also offer launch services from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida.
- Axiom contracted SpaceX as its launch provider and to familiarise the crew members with systems, procedures and emergency preparedness for its Dragon spacecraft.
- Earlier on May 22, SpaceX launched Axiom’s third private mission and four astronauts returned after spending 10 days in space.

- The bus serves as a dedicated vehicle for various payloads, enabling earth imaging, ocean and atmospheric studies, microwave remote sensing, and space science missions while ensuring a quick turnaround time for satellite launches.
- The IMS-1 bus, weighing about 100 kg, accommodates a 30kg payload.

- Besides, it will also open ways to sell power to neighbouring countries such as Sri Lanka and Myanmar.
- As per the proposed three-way deal, Nepal will supply hydropower to Bangladesh leveraging India’s high-voltage transmission line.
- At first, 50 MW will be provided to Bangladesh by Nepal using India’s Baharampur-Bheramara cross-border transmission line.
- The electricity will be supplied from Nepal’s 900 MW Upper Karnali hydropower project.
For a dedicated transmission line, Nepal and Bangladesh have identified two corridors. - The first is the Anarmari (Nepal)-Panchagarh (Bangladesh) corridor with a total length of 49 km, of which 24 km will be in India.
- The second is the Anarmari (Nepal)-Thakurgaon (Bangladesh) line with a length of 83 km, of which 33 km will be in the Indian territory.
- Bangladesh is already importing 500 MW power from India through the Baharampur-Bheramara transmission line, and around 150-160 MW through the Tripura-Comilla grid interconnection project.
- Besides, it is now also getting coal-fired power from Adani’s Godda (Jharkhand) thermal power plant .

- The last-mile connectivity will be provided by Bharat Broadband Network Limited (BBNL), an arm of state-owned BSNL, in partnership with village level entrepreneur (VLE).
- The pilot project was initially carried out to connect villages in four districts and then expanded to 60,000 villages across most states
- The project is being rolled on a 50 per cent revenue-sharing basis between BBNL and VLE, and the monthly broadband plan price starts from Rs 399 onward.
- There are 37 lakh route kilometres (rkm) of Optical Fibre Cable (OFC) laid in the country, out of which BBNL has laid 7.7 lakh rkm.
- The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in June approved the third revival package for BSNL with a total outlay of Rs 89,047 crore, primarily for expenses related to spectrum for 4G and 5G services.
- With the revival package, the total financial aid extended to the state-run telco has crossed Rs 3.2 lakh crore.

- Geographical Indications (GI) is a form of Intellectual Property right that identifies goods originating from a specific geographical location and having distinct nature, quality and characteristics linked to that location.
- The process for GI Tagging of nine products was started by NABARD in consultation with and support from the Department of Handicrafts and Handloom and Department of Agriculture in December 2020, during the difficult times of COVID.
- Chikri is a pale, honey colored, fine grained softwood found in hill ranges of Rajouri district of Jammu province. The Chikri woodcraft of Rajouri is characterized by intricate carving and detailing.
- Similarly, Mushqbudji Rice is a premium variety of short bold aromatic rice grown in higher reaches of the Kashmir valley especially in Anantnag district.
- The cooked Mushqbudji Rice is unique and possesses a harmonious blend of taste, aroma and rich organoleptic properties.
