  • For domestic, NRO, and NRE deposits, the latest interest rates are in effect.

  • The work on the country’s first cable-stayed railway bridge at AnjiKhad in Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir has been completed, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said.
  • The completion of AnjiKhadbridge, having a single pylon with a height of 331 metres above the river bed on Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL), is yet another major breakthrough achieved by the Indian Railways, which is expecting to complete the Rs 37,000 crore project by the end of this year.
  • Described as a “true engineering marvel”, the bridge has 48 cables each on lateral and central spans with work on its pylon started in 2017, officials said, adding the pylon is standing 191 metre from its foundation level.
  • It is the second highest railway bridge after the iconic arch bridge over Chenab at Kauri, which is the highest railway bridge in the world being 359 metres above the river bed level — 35 metres higher than the iconic Eiffel tower in Paris.
  • AnjiKhadbridge has a total length of 473.25 metres, while the length of the viaduct is 120 metres. The central embankment has a length of 94.25 meters.
  • In October 2016, the Railways decided to build a cable-stayed bridge at AnjiKhad after the plan to build an arch bridge similar to Chenab bridge was abandoned due to vulnerability of the structure, primarily due to concerns over geological stability of the region.
  • The Railway Ministry sanctioned the construction of the railway line from Udhampur to Baramulla via Srinagar in phases — 25-km Udhampur to Katra in 1994, 118-km Qazigund to Baramulla and 129-km Katra to Qazigund in 1999.
  • In view of the importance of the USBRL in providing seamless and hassle-free connectivity to Kashmir, the 272-km-long rail link was declared as a “National Project” in 2002.

  • The projects were launched virtually by the Chief Justice of India, Justice DY Chandrachud, who appreciated the High Court as well as everyone involved in the launch of the initiatives in incorporating technology in judicial functioning.
  • The projects have been launched by Information Technology Committee of Delhi High Court which is headed by Justice Rajiv Shakdher as the Chairman. Other members are Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva, Justice Sanjeev Narula, Justice Talwant Singh and Justice Purushaindra Kumar Kaurav.
  • As part of the initiative, the digital traffic courts will adjudicate the challans contested on virtual court and conduct the proceedings online, including recording of evidence and hearing of arguments.
  • The process will be done as per the eFiling Rules of Delhi High Court, 2021 and Delhi High Court Rules for Video Conferencing for Courts, 2021.
  • In the digital courts, the alleged violators can appear through video conferencing, who, if convicted, can pay the fine online on https://pay.ecourts.gov.in.
  • At present, two such digital traffic courts have been setup in East and North-East districts and Karkardooma Courts. It is proposed that one digital traffic court is set up in each District Court of Delhi.
  • The other initiative of bail orders sharing module on e-Prison platform is for providing a platform to the Delhi High Court and District Courts to share digitally signed bail orders to inmates or under trials lodged in any jail throughout the country. A list of cases where the prisoner is not released despite grant of bail will also be generated.
  • The initiative has been developed by NIC-ICJS division in consultation with the Delhi High Court, Delhi State Legal Services Authority and Delhi Prison.
