  • This initiative is in line with India’s Foreign Trade Policy 2023 and RBI’s framework for invoicing, payment, and settlement of exports or imports in INR, in addition to US Dollar, Euro and other currencies.
  • The Authorised Dealer (AD) banks in India can open Rupee Vostro Accounts of correspondent bank/s of a partner trading country to facilitate trade transactions in INR.

  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has removed restrictions on individuals opening interest-earning Foreign Currency Accounts (FCA) in India’s International Financial Services Centre (IFSC).
  • The central bank has also removed the requirement to repatriate funds lying idle in the FCA account for up to 15 days.
  • In February 2021, the RBI allowed resident individuals to make remittances under the Liberalised Remittance Scheme (LRS) to IFSCs set up in India, but the remittances were only allowed for making investments in IFSC securities.
  • Moreover, only a non-interest-bearing FCA was allowed in IFSCs under LRS. And any funds lying idle in the account for a period up to 15 days from the date of its receipt were to be immediately transferred back to the domestic account of the investor in India. The RBI circular removes these key restrictions.
  • The move will boost activity at Gift City, India’s first and only IFSC.
  • Under the LRS, authorised dealers were allowed to facilitate remittances by resident individuals up to $ 250,000 per financial year for any transactions permitted under the law.

  • Mohanty was appointed MD of LIC in February 2021, taking over from T C Suseel Kumar, and is scheduled to serve in his post until his superannuation in June this year.
  • Mohanty is one of the three MDs currently placed at LIC. The other two are Mini Ipe and B C Patnaik.
  • Generally, LIC has one chairperson and four MDs as its key managerial personnel.
  • Before joining LIC as MD, Mohanty was serving as MD and chief executive officer of LIC Housing Finance – one of the largest mortgage financiers in the country.

  • The modifications included reduction in guarantee fees for loans upto ₹1 crore by 50% bringing the minimum guarantee fee to the level of 0.37% pa only.
  • Another major change announced was raising of ceiling for guarantee from ₹2 crore to ₹ 5 crore and enhancing the threshold limit for claim settlement without initiation of legal action to ₹10 lakh.
  • CGTMSE will collaborate with National Institute for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (ni-msme), Hyderabad for setting up a Centre of Financial Inclusion for MSME.

  • As a result of this agreement, over 168 cadres of DNLA are joining the mainstream by laying down their arms. The pact will bring a complete end to the insurgency in the Dima Hasao district of Assam.
  • Under the agreement, Dimasa Welfare Council will be set up by the Government of Assam to protect, preserve and promote a social, cultural, and linguistic identity to meet political, economic and educational aspirations and will ensure speedy and focused development of the Dimasa people residing outside the jurisdiction of the Autonomous Council.
  • Along with this, the agreement also provides for the appointment of a Commission under Paragraph 14 of the Sixth Schedule to the Constitution of India to examine the demand for the inclusion of additional villages contiguous to the North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council (NCHAC) with the Council.
  • The agreement also provides for necessary measures to be taken by the Government of India and the Government of Assam to rehabilitate the surrendered armed cadres of DNLA.
  • To this effect, a Special Development package of Rs 500 crore each, will also be provided by the Government of India and Government of Assam over a period of five years, for the all-round development of NCHAC as well as Dimasa people residing in other parts of the State.
