  • In 1863, the International Committee for Relief to the Wounded was established, which later became known as the ICRC. It aimed to provide impartial and neutral humanitarian aid during armed conflicts.
  • During the 20th International Conference of the Red Cross in Tokyo, Japan, in 1933, World Red Cross Day was officially established with May 8 designated as the day to honour the birth of Henry Dunant and acknowledge the humanitarian work of the Red Cross movement.

  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has imposed a monetary penalty of Rs 1.73 crore on The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Ltd (HSBC) for contravention of Credit Information Companies Rules, 2006.
  • According to an RBI press release, HSBC furnished incorrect credit information in respect of a number of expired credit cards with nil dues to all four credit information companies.
  • The penalty has been imposed in the exercise of powers vested in RBI conferred under the provisions of Section 25 (1) and Section 23 (4) of the Credit Information Companies (Regulation) Act, 2005.
  • The central bank has imposed a monetary penalty of Rs 2 lakh on the Trichur Urban Co-operative Bank Ltd, Thrissur, Kerala for non-compliance with directions issued by the central bank on Management of Advances – UCBs.
  • RBI has imposed a monetary penalty of Rs 1.25 lakh on Bhilai Nagarik Sahakari Bank Maryadit, Bhilai (Chhattisgarh) for contravention of/non-compliance with the provisions of the Banking Regulation Act, 1949, and the Depositor Education and Awareness Fund Scheme, 2014.

  • Forex reserves comprise foreign currency assets, gold, special drawing rights and reserve tranche position in the International Monetary Fund.
  • As of March-end 2023, out of the total FCA of $509.69 billion, $411.65 billion was invested in securities, $75.51 billion was deposited with other central banks and the Bank of International Settlements (BIS), and the balance of $22.52 billion comprised deposits with commercial banks overseas.

  • The maximum order size would be 200 tonnes and the tick size will be ₹10 per tonne.
  • The price quote (excluding GST) will be ex-warehouse at Raipur district, Chhattisgarh.
  • The daily price limit is of 4 per cent and once this is reached it will be relaxed to 6 per cent without any cooling-off period in the trade. Once the 6 per cent limit is breached, then after a cooling-off period of 15 minutes, the daily price limit will be relaxed up to 9 per cent.
  • In case, price movement in international markets is more than the maximum daily price limit (of 9 per cent), the same may be further relaxed in steps of 3 per cent. The initial margin will be 8 per cent.
  • While the primary delivery centre will be at Raipur, the exchange has provided additional delivery centres at Thane district in Maharashtra, Palwal district in Haryana, Chennai district in Tamil Nadu and Durgapur district in West Bengal.

9. Who inaugurated the Indian Air Force Heritage Centre in Chandigarh?

  • Defence minister Rajnath Singh inaugurated the first-of-its-kind Indian Air Force (IAF) Heritage Centre in Chandigarh.
  • The centre, spread over 17,000 square feet on Madhya Marg in Sector 18, depicts the IAF’s role in various wars, including in 1965, 1971 and the Kargil War, besides the Balakot airstrike through murals and memorabilia.
  • The heritage centre has been set up under a memorandum of understanding between the Union Territory (UT) administration and the IAF signed 2022. It will be maintained by the UT administration, while the weapons and equipment have been put up by the IAF.
  • The heritage centre is spread over 17,000 square feet. Located in Sector 18, this centre has put five decommissioned aircraft including a Hindustan Piston Trainer-32 primary flying trainer aircraft, a MiG 21 single-seat fighter and a GNAT aircraft (Sabre Slayer) on the display. Besides, Air Force Kanpur 1 which was made by Air Vice Marshal Harjinder Singh in 1958, has also been positioned.
  • The centre also depicts the role of the Indian Air Force during various wars including 1947, 1948,1965, and 1971 besides the Kargil Conflict and the Balakot Air Strikes.
  • There are also flying simulators at the centre which will give flight experience to visitors.
  • The attractions of the heritage centre also include SAM-III Pechora missiles.
  • Among the exhibits is a Gnat aircraft (Sabre Slayer), which was flown by Param Vir Chakra awardee Flying Officer Nirmal Jit Singh Sekhon in the 1971 war against Pakistan.
  • A MiG-21 fighter jet, which was inducted into the IAF in 1963, and Kanpur 1, the first aircraft built by India in 1951, have also found space at the heritage centre.

  • These buses will not have any standing passengers and the fare will be higher than for other buses owned or operated by the city government’s Delhi Transport Corporation.
  • Also, women will not be entitled to free rides on these buses.
  • These premium buses, which will have WiFi, CCTV, GPS, panic button, and other facilities, will not be run by the government but by private operators.
  • After January 1, 2024, all the buses running in the fleet should be electric ones.

  • The first C 295 tactical lift aircraft made for the Indian Air Force undertook its maiden test flight in Spain, bringing it one step closer for the scheduled delivery later this year.
  • The aircraft was tested in Seville, Spain and undertook a three-hour flight to check various onboard systems.
  • The first 16 aircraft of the type are being made in Spain, while the following 40 are to be manufactured in Gujarat by Tata Advanced Systems Limited in collaboration with Airbus.
  • The first aircraft is likely to be delivered by September and Indian air force crews are already being trained in Spain.
  • The foundation stone for the military transport aircraft manufacturing facility was laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Vadodara last October.
  • Tata is establishing the main manufacturing facility at Vadodara and will also set up an aerospace and defence complex at Dholera. The company has tied up with Airbus that won a Rs 21,935 crore contract to supply 56 transport aircraft to the Indian air force in 2021.
  • The new complex will be India’s first ever private sector aircraft manufacturing facility. While smaller aircraft have been made in India in the past, the projects were executed by public sector enterprises, mainly Hindustan Aeronautics Limited.

  • The Coal India CSR-funded Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplant (HSCT) program is a unique initiative aimed at providing a one-time cure opportunity to underprivileged Thalassemia patients who have a matched sibling donor but do not have the financial resources to cover the cost of the procedure.
  • The program has successfully completed 356 bone marrow transplants for Thalassemia patients across 10 empanelled hospitals in India during the two phases.

  • The ship was also instrumental in evacuation of over 1,300 survivors post Tsunami in 2004 and had been part of several joint military exercises with the Indian Army.
  • In 2018, the vessel was converted into a training ship and joined the First Training Squadron at Kochi.
  • INS Magar is the lead ship of the Magar class amphibious warfare vessels of the Indian Navy.
  • Magar’ has been named after a species of crocodile. The crest design depicts a Brown coloured crocodile with its mouth open swimming over White and Blue ocean waves. The aft portion of the crest shows a cut out of the thick and impenetrable armour like skin of the crocodile. The design has been taken from a Mathura sculpture of 1st Century AD, preserved in original in the Lucknow museum.
