1. World Radio Day 2022:
- World Radio Day is celebrated on February 13 with an aim to underline the importance of radio.
- Radio has managed to be a prominent platform to reach the masses in India.
History:
- The Member states of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) first proclaimed this day in 2011.
- It was adopted by UNGA in 2012 as an International Day.
- On this day, UNESCO invites all radio stations to commemorate the 11th edition of the event & more than a century of radio.
Theme:
- 2022 Theme: “Radio and Trust”

2. National Women’s Day 2022:
- February 13 is celebrated as National Women’s Day to commemorate the birth anniversary of Sarojini Naidu.
Sarojini Naidu:
- Born as Sarojini Chattopadhyay on February 13, 1897.
- She was a political leader & a poet who stood her ground strongly for the rights of women and civil rights.
- She earned herself the title ‘The Nightingale of India’.
3. Agricultural Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) celebrates its 36th Foundation Day:
- APEDA supported the GoI in taking the export of agricultural products to 20.67 billion dollar in 2020-21 from 0.6 billion dollar in 1986 when it was founded.
- It also helped to expand the export basket to 205 countries.
- Target of APEDA: For the current financial year is 23.7 billion dollar, out of which more than 70 % has been achieved till January 2022.
- Focus of APEDA: on promotion of exports of Geographical Indications tagged & indigenous, ethnic agricultural products.

4. Sandeep Kumar wins inaugural VW Polo Cup:
- Sandeep Kumar clinched the national championship title for the inaugural Polo Cup with a race to spare in the 4th & final round of the MRF MMSC FMSCI Indian National Car Racing Championship.
- This is the 2nd national title for the 29-year old Chennai racer.
- A former Volkswagen Polo R Pro Cup champion, who raced in Scirocco R Cup for 2 years in Germany, Sandeep was also the winner of Formula LGB4 National Championship-2020.

5. Bank of Maharashtra (BoM) emerges leader among PSBs in deposit mobilisation in Q3:
- BoM has become a top performer among public sector banks (PSBs) in terms of growth in deposit mobilization in the 3rd quarter ended in December 2021.
- According to BoM, It has recorded a 21 % increase in total deposits at Rs 1,86,614 crore in the October-December period of 2021-22.
- For Q3, BoM was followed by Punjab & Sind Bank with 87 % growth in total advances with aggregate loans at Rs 1,00,351 crore.
- In terms of savings deposit mobilization, BoM recorded an 33 % growth at Rs 80,815 crore.
- Followed by Bank of Baroda at 12.36 % rise with Rs 3,22,909 crore & State Bank of India with an increase of 30 %.
- SBI’s savings deposit base was 18 times higher at Rs 14,73,506 crore as against BoM’s Rs 80,815 crore.
- Current deposits of BoM, during the third quarter witnessed a growth rate of 86 % to Rs 21,917 crore followed by Canara Bank at 16.37 % to Rs 49,529 crore.
- The Current Account and Savings Account (CASA) of BoM, increased by 60 % to Rs 1,02,732 crore.
- Followed by Bank of Baroda, at 86 % growth with Rs 3,88,169 crore at the end of December 2021.
- In terms of asset quality improvement, gross non-performing assets (NPAs) of BoM was at 73 % of the total advances, the second-best after SBI at 4.5 %, during the December quarter.
- Concerning net NPA, BoM was better at 24 % while that of SBI was 1.34 % during the quarter under review.
- For Q3, BoM’s standalone net profit more than doubled to Rs 325 crore as against Rs 154 crore in the same period a year ago.
- Its total income climbed to Rs 3,893 crore from Rs 3,582 crore in the year-ago period.

6. NSDC, Common Service Centres (CSC) inks pact for delivery of services to accelerate skill development:
- The National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) & CSC inked a pact for the delivery of services to accelerate India’s skill development.
- CSCs at the village level will act as a skill desk, create awareness about skill development programs.

7. Former J-K High Court Chief Justice Gita Mittal appointed as chairperson of Committee of Administrators to run TTFI:
- Delhi High Court Justice RekhaPalli, has appointed Gita Mittal as the chairperson of the Committee of Administrators to discharge the functions of the Table Tennis Federation of India (TTFI).
- Committee Members: Chetan Mittal, Senior Advocate and SD Mudgil, a renowned athlete.
- Gita Mittal: Former Jammu and Kashmir High Court Chief Justice.

8. Modi govt approves Rs 26,275 cr scheme for continuation of police modernisation:
- GoI has approved the continuation of umbrella scheme of Modernisation of Police Forces (MPF) for 5 years up to 2025-26 with a financial outlay of Rs 26,275 crore.
- As per Union Home Ministry, this scheme includes security-related expenditure in J & K, Northeastern states & Maoists-affected areas, for raising new battalions, developing high-tech forensic laboratories and other investigation tools.
Monetary Allotments:
- A central outlay of Rs 18,839 crore has been earmarked for security-related expenditure in J & K, insurgency affected northeastern states and Left Wing Extremism (LWE) affected areas.
- Rs 4,846 will be given by the central government for the modernisation of state police forces.
- To develop high-quality forensic sciences facilities in states & UT for aiding scientific and timely investigation, Rs 2,080.50 crore will be given.
- Six LWE-related schemes with a central outlay of Rs 8,689 crore have been approved.
- These schemes include Special Central Assistance (SCA) to most LWE-affected districts and districts of concern to consolidate the gains.
- For the raising of India Reserve Battalions or Specialised India Reserve Battalions, a central outlay of Rs 350 crore has been approved.
- Rs 50 crore has been approved under the central sector scheme of Assistance to States & UTs for narcotics control.
9. India supplies medical assistance to Iran as part of ongoing humanitarian assistance:
- India supplied medical assistance consisting of anti-Tuberculosis medicines, to Iran.
- According to an MEA, last year, India had supplied humanitarian assistance to Iran consisting of one million doses of COVAXIN vaccine.
- India also supplied 40,000 litres of Malathion pesticide to Iran under the Government-to-Government initiative for Locust Control Programme, to ensure food security.
10. LG Sinha lays foundation of Tawi riverfront development project in Jammu:
- Jammu and Kashmir Lt Governor Manoj Sinha laid the foundation of the Tawi riverfront development project.
- In phase-1, embankments, interceptor drains, sewerage treatment plants, cycling track, jogging track, walkways, green spaces and other wayside amenities would be developed.
- The complete project is prepared on the lines of the Sabarmati riverfront in Gujarat.
- Remarks: 109 projects, were pending for years have been completed in Jammu division at a cost of Rs 455 crore, including 14 new bridges.
11. Jaisalmer Desert Festival begins in Rajasthan:
- In Rajasthan, February is the time of myriad colourful festivals and fairs.
- The Jaisalmer Desert Festival is also known as MaruMahotsav of the Golden City began at Pokaran.
- 4-day-long festival started with colourful grand procession followed by Miss Pokaran and Mister Pokran competitions.
- Organized by, AIR correspondent reports,Tourism department of Rajasthan associating with district administration.
- On 14th Feb, Camel Safari and Camel beautification shows are scheduled to be organized.
- On 15th Feb, Camel Polo match, BSF Camel Tattoo show will be organized.
- Festival will conclude with Horse race, Camel dance and firework display on 16th of February.
12. External Affairs Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar reaches Philippines for 3-day official visit:
- This will be his first visit to Philippines as External Affairs Minister.
- He will hold talks with his counterpart, Teodoro L. Locsin Jr. the Secretary of Foreign Affairs of Philippines.
- The Ministers will review developments in bilateral relations since the meeting of the Joint Commission on Bilateral Cooperation that they co-chaired in virtual format in November 2020.
- He will also interact with the Indian community in Manila.
13. 17th MIFF to be held from 29 May to 4 June, 2022:
- Mumbai International Film Festival for Documentary, Short Fiction and Animation films (MIFF-2022) will be held from 29 May to 4 June, 2022 at the Films Division complex, Mumbai.
- Films completed between 1st Sep 2019 & 31st Dec 2021 is eligible for entry in MIFF-2022.
- The Best Documentary of the Festival will receive a Golden Conch and Rs.10 lakhs cash award.
- As Part of “AzadikaAmrit Mahotsav”, the 17th edition has instituted a special award for Best Short Film on the theme, India@75.
- Veterans will be awarded V Shantaram Lifetime Achievement Award carrying a cash component of 10 lakhs, a trophy and citation.
MIFF:
- The oldest & largest festival for non-feature films in South Asia, MIFF, organized by Films Division, Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Supported by Government of Maharashtra.
- Major highlights of the festival: interactive sessions like workshops, master classes, open forum and B2B sessions.
- The 16th MIFF received a record 871 entries from India and abroad.
- The grand jury comprised of eminent film personalities from France, Japan, Singapore, Canada, Bulgaria & India.
