Europe successfully lifts-off mission to explore Jupiter’s moons
- The European Space Agency’s (ESA) The Jupiter ICy Moons Explorer (Juice) mission spacecraft launched atop an Ariane 5 rocket from Europe’s Spaceport in Kourou, French Guiana
- The spacecraft lifted off from Europe’s spaceport in French Guiana on an eight-year-long journey to the three biggest moons(Callisto, Europa, and, in particular, Ganymede) on Jupiter.
- The mission will reach Jupiter in July 2031 with the aid of momentum and direction gained from four gravity-assist fly-bys of the Earth-Moon system, Venus, and, twice, Earth.
- Flight VA 260 will be the final Ariane 5 flight to carry an ESA mission to space
