  • The unemployment rate for persons aged 15 years and above in urban areas declined to 6.8 per cent during January-March 2023 from 8.2 per cent a year ago, the National Sample Survey Survey (NSSO) showed.
  • The unemployment rate in July-September 2022 and October-December 2022 was 7.2 per cent only. It was 7.6 per cent in April-June 2022.
  • The unemployment rate (UR) for persons aged 15 years and above in April-June 2022 was 7.6 per cent in urban areas, the 18th Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS) showed.
    In January-March 2022, the unemployment rate was 8.2 per cent.
  • Labour force participation rate in CWS (Current Weekly Status) in urban areas for persons aged 15 years and above increased to 48.5 per cent in the January-March quarter of 2023, from 47.3 per cent in the same period a year ago. It was 48.2 per cent in October-December 2022, 47.9 per cent in July-September 2022 and 47.5 per cent in April-June 2022.
  • NSSO launched PLFS in April 2017.
  • The WPR (in per cent) in CWS in urban areas for persons aged 15 years and above stood at 45.2 per cent in January-March 2023, up from 43.4 per cent in the same period a year ago. It was 44.7 per cent in October-December 2022, 44.5 per cent in July-September 2022 and 43.9 per cent in April-June, 2022.

  • Its investment in the Badr-8 programme totals about $300m, including the spacecraft manufacturing contract with Airbus, the launch agreement with SpaceX, insurance, and ground infrastructure.
  • As a seventh-generation satellite, Badr-8 is based on the Airbus Eurostar Neo electric orbit raising platform.
  • The satellite features the Airbus-developed TELEO optical communications payload demonstrator. This payload will enable high-capacity analogue optical feeder link communications capability.

  • This was GSLV’s 15th flight.

  • The 51.7 m, 420 tonne, three-stage GSLV-F12 was the 15th flight of the GSLV and the 9th flight with an indigenous cryo stage. It was the sixth operational flight of GSLV with cryogenic stage.
  • To meet the positioning, navigation and timing requirements of the nation, Isro has established a regional navigation satellite system called Navigation with Indian Constellation (NavIC).
  • NavIC was earlier known as the Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System (IRNSS).
  • NVS-01 will be a return flight mission for the GSLV launch vehicle, which will carry the next generation NavIC satellite.
  • This satellite will replace the IRNSS-1G satellite launched in 2016.
  • The IRNSS-1G satellite was the seventh navigation satellite of the seven satellites constituting the IRNSS space segment. Its predecessors—IRNSS-1A, 1B, 1C, 1D, 1E and 1F—were launched by PSLV-C22, PSLV-C24, PSLV-C26, PSLV-C27, PSLV-C31 and PSLV-C32 in July 2013, April 2014, October 2014, March 2015, January 2016 and March 2016, respectively.
  • NavIC is designed with a constellation of seven satellites and a network of ground stations operating 24×7.
  • Three satellites of the constellation are placed in geostationary orbit and four satellites are placed in inclined geosynchronous orbit. The ground network consists of a control centre, precise timing facility, range and integrity monitoring stations, two-way ranging stations, etc.
  • The payload is also carrying an indigenously developed rubidium atomic clock developed by the Space Applications Centre, Ahmedabad
  • NavIC offers two services — standard position service (SPS) for civilian users and restricted service (RS) for strategic users. These two services are provided in both L5 (1176.45 MHz) and S band (2498.028 MHz).

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the new Parliament building, seeking blessings from high priests of various ‘adheenams’ in Tamil Nadu with the holy sceptre in hand.
  • He also installed the historic Sengol in the Lok Sabha chamber.
  • The new Parliament building can comfortably seat 888 members in the Lok Sabha chamber and 300 in the Rajya Sabha chamber. In case of a joint sitting of both the Houses, a total of 1,280 members can be accommodated in the Lok Sabha chamber.
  • The present Parliament building was completed in 1927, and is now 96 years old.
  • This is same ‘Sengol’ which was accepted by India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru at his residence on the night of August 14, 1947, in the presence of several leaders.
  • PM Modi also launched a special ₹75 coin to mark the inauguration of the new Parliament building.
  • The coin is circular with a 44 mm diameter and it weighs around 35 grams. It has 200 serrations and is composed of 50 percent silver, 40 percent copper, 5 percent nickel, and 5 percent Zinc.
  • One side of the coin will bear the image of the Lion Capital of the Ashoka Pillar in the centre, flanked by the word “Bharat” in Devanagari script and “INDIA” in English.
  • The rupee symbol “₹” and denominational value “75” in international numerals will also be inscribed below the Lion Capital.
  • The other side of the coin will bear the image of the Parliament Complex and the year “2023” in international numerals below the image.
  • In 2006, the Parliament Museum was added to showcase the 2,500 years of rich democratic heritage of India.

  • Odisha Cabinet chaired by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik approved a new housing scheme called “MO GHARA” to provide financial assistance to meet the aspiration of the lower and lower middle-income households in rural areas.
  • Financial implication for approximate 4 Lakhs Beneficiaries (1 Lakhs from eachLoanSlab) is expected to be Rs 2150 Crore over a period of two years.
  • Under the Scheme, a beneficiary can avail housing loan upto Rs 3 Lakh which can be repaid in 10 years excluding 1 year moratorium period in easy installments. They can opt for one of the four slabs of the loan amount – Rs. 1 Lakh, 1.5 Lakh,2 Lakh and 3 Lakh.
  • The family staying in a kutcha house or has one pucca room with RCC roof, the family which has either not availed any Government housing assistance or has availed assistance of below Rs 70,000 in the past would be eligible to avail the benefit under the scheme.
  • Family with per-month income below Rs 25,000 family who does not possess a non-commercial motorized Four-Wheeler for personal use and does not have any member as a regular Government / PSU employee or drawing a monthly pension from Government / PSU and owns below 5 acres of irrigated land or below 15 acres non-irrigated land can also be covered under the scheme.
  • Enhanced capital subsidy will be available to the vulnerable categories like SC/ST and PWD headed households.
  • The cabinet decided to give a subsidy of Rs 40,000 to SC/ST. PWD headed households and Rs 30,000 to general category against loan amount of Rs one lakh, Rs 55,000 to SC/ST./PWD and Rs 45,000 to General category against loan amount of Rs 1.5 lakh.
  • A subsidy of Rs 70,000 will be given to SC/ST/PWD and Rs 60,000 to general category beneficiaries against the loan of Rs 2 and 3 lakh.
  • Banks will not charge any processing fee from the beneficiary for sanction of the loan.
  • The state government waived off the registration fee and stamp duties required during mortgage of tittle deed to further reduce the financial burden for the beneficiaries.
  • The charges for getting certified copies of relevant documents from the Sub-Registrar offices as required by bank for processing of loan applications under this scheme will also be waived.
  • The legal consultation fee is also standardized to Rs 1,000- maximum, which State Government will reimburse to the banks.
  • The beneficiaries can also avail support under relevant schemes of rural sanitation, drinking water, rural electrification if found eligible and not availed earlier.
  • Loan will be released in 2/3 installments on achievement of pre-defined stage of construction.
  • The beneficiary, if interested, can repay the loan amount earlier than the scheduled period of 10 years. They can also opt for paying higher EMls. No- prepayment charges will be imposed by bank for this period.
