  • Rupay Select debit card will provide with “luxury, convenience, and security, all in one card.
  • The introduction of the RuPay Select debit card will offer users with gym memberships, free health check up, complimentary golf lessons, spa services, and lounge access in selected domestic and international airports.

Eligibility Criteria

  • One is required to have a savings bank account or a certificate of deposit (CD) with IOB, maintaining an average daily balance of ₹ one lakh.
  • Cash withdrawal limit is set to ₹50,000. Daily limit for usage in merchant establishments (PoS) is set at ₹ five lakh. An amount of up to ₹3,50,000 is set for daily usage in e-commerce platforms.
  • Charges for the issuance of the card and annual maintenance fee is ₹800 along with GST, respectively.

Transactions at IOB ATMS

  • No charges will be levied for the first five transactions (financial and non-financial). Post, for every financial transaction in cash withdrawal or deposit, ₹10 plus GST will be charged.
  • For non-financial transactions such as checking of bank statement, mini statement, and others, ₹ five plus GST will be charged.

4. Which bank has rolled out the Mahila Samman Savings Certificate scheme?

  • Bank of India (BoI) has rolled out Mahila Samman Savings Certificate scheme.
  • The scheme was announced by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman during her Budget speech this year.
  • The scheme offers an interest rate of 7.5 per cent per annum, compounded quarterly.
  • Under the scheme, individual girls or women can open a Mahila Samman Savings Certificate, or a guardian can open an account on behalf of a minor girl.
  • The account will mature after two years from the date of opening. Accounts under this scheme can be opened until March 31, 2025.
  • While minimum investment is ₹1,000, any sum in multiples of ₹100 can be deposited, up to a maximum limit of ₹2 lakh.
  • Individuals can open multiple accounts with a gap of three months between each account, subject to the overall investment cap of ₹2 lakh.
  • Account closure can be requested by the customer in case of emergencies or at their discretion, with a penalty of 2 per cent after six months from the date of account opening, and the applicable interest rate will be 5.5 per cent.
  • Account holders can also make partial withdrawals, up to 40 per cent of the eligible balance, after one year from the date of opening the account.
  • All earnings under the Mahila Samman Savings Certificate will be taxable as per existing income tax provisions. However, TDS (Tax Deducted at Source) will not be deducted under the scheme.

  • The proposal for “critical care and support for accessing justice to rape/gang rape survivors and minor girls who get pregnant” has been approved by the WCD Ministry with an outlay of Rs 74.10 crore and will be applicable across the country in a week’s time.
  • The scheme aims to provide shelter, food, daily needs, safe transportation for attending court hearings and legal aid to minor girls who have been abandoned by their family due to forced pregnancy, either due to rape or gang rape, or due to any other reason, and have no other means to support themselves.
  • The fund will help in setting up shelters for such victims.
  • This could be in the nature of standalone shelters, or wards earmarked for such victims in existing child care institutions (CCIs), as state governments see fit.
  • In case of wards inside existing CCIs, the person in-charge of the institution will ensure that a separate safe space is provided to minor rape victims, “as her needs may be different from other children residing there’’.
