  • AIIMS Smart Payment Card will resolve the long pending issue of patients from far flung areas carrying cash with them to the hospital.
  • The patients or their caretakers can get the card easily from the facilitation centres across AIIMS, New Delhi and thereafter use it for payment at various counters.
  • Smart Payment Card is referred as ‘One AIIMS, One Card’ because of the funds can now be transferred easily and swiftly from across the country by anyone in case of any urgent payment related requirement, for the patient being attended at AIIMS, New Delhi.

Background:

  • The SBI-AIIMS Smart card is being provided free of cost to all patients and has no service charges. All patients upon admission will be issued the Smart Card.
  • The card will be linked to the patient’s Unique Hospital Identification (UHID) number & the Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA) ID issued under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM).
  • Top – up and refunds from the card can be done only upon provision of a One Time Password (OTP) received on the mobile number linked to the patient’s UHID.
  • This will help prevent frauds and theft.
  • If a patient loses the card, a replacement will be provided to the patient free of cost and balance (if any) will be transferred to the replacement card.
  • The card once issued will be valid for a period of five years.
  • All transactions done using this card are linked to the E-Hospital functional at AIIMS.
  • Reconciliation of all financial transactions can be done by the Finance Division, AIIMS owing to the two-way integration between AIIMS & the bank.
  • Smart card once topped up and activated can be used for payment at different cash counters on a 24 x 7 basis for services availed at the Institute.
  • In addition to using cash for top-up, top up can also be done from anywhere through online modalities, credit/ debit card and can be done by any relative/ friend for the patient.

  • The objective of this agreement is to develop a 140 GHz Fully Integrated Transmitter and Receiver Module to enable applications for 6G and beyond.
  • The novelty of this system lies in generation, transmission and antenna integration of THz waves onto a single chip; leading to reduced system size, weight and power consumption, hence making it suitable for use in portable devices such as smartphones, laptops, wearables etc.

  • The Bangladesh flag vessel M V Desh Bangla carrying stone aggregates was flagged-off by Minister of State for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Shri Shantanu Thakur from Maia Inland Customs Port in West Bengal.
  • The trial movement from Maia to Sultanganj through IBP route no. 5 & 6 will add new dimensions to the waterways based transportation between India and Bangladesh as it is the shortest waterway route between the two countries.
  • The event was organized by the Inland Waterways Authority of India.
  • The flagging-off event was attended by first secretary, B’desh High Commission in Kolkata, Additional Commissioner Customs, Kolkata, owner-operator of the Maia riverine port.
  • The Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW)has taken up several infrastructure projects on National Waterways 1, Indo-Bangladesh Protocol Route and NW2 through the Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) with the objective of improving connectivity with Bangladesh and the North Eastern Region through waterways.
  • The operationalisation of Maia Terminal is expected to be a game-changer as it would shift 2.6 million tonnes per annum of Bangladesh bound export cargo from road to waterways.
  • The Maia-Aricha route (Protocol Route 5 & 6) will reduce the distance from NW1 to Bangladesh and North Eastern Region by 930 kilometres.
  • In order to improve bilateral trade between the two nations, the government of Bangladesh has agreed to carry out five trial runs of vessel movement between Maia and Sultanganj.

Note:

  • Inland Water Transport (IWT) is a highly cost-effective mode of transportation, particularly for bulk cargo like coal, iron ore, cement, food grains, and fertilizer.
  • Despite its advantages, its current share in India’s modal mix is only 2%.
  • The government aims to increase this share to 5% by 2030 under the Maritime India Vision (MIV)-2030.
  • To achieve this goal, the Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) has identified 25 new National Waterways (NWs) through feasibility studies to make them navigable for transportation.
  • The plan also aims to operationalize 50 waterways by 2047 and introduce low-draft vessel designs with possible tug-barge combinations to enhance efficiency and accessibility.

  • Current report underscores the potential benefits of converting underutilized areas, especially wastelands, for agroforestry.
  • The GROW initiative aligns with national commitments, aiming to restore 26 million hectares of degraded land by 2030 and create an additional carbon sink of 2.5 to 3 billion tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent.
  • Approximately 16.96% of the Total Geographical Area (TGA) is wasteland, requiring transformation for productive use. Geospatial technologies and GIS are employed to map and prioritize these wastelands for agroforestry interventions.
