  • Hockey India has congratulated the Odisha government on winning the Asian Hockey Federation (AHF) Award for Best Hockey Infrastructure during the AHF Congress held in Mungyeong, Korea.
  • The award was presented for the efforts by the state government to build the world’s largest-seated Birsa Munda Hockey Stadium in Rourkela which also houses an Olympic-style Hockey Village.
  • The picturesque stadium, named after Indian freedom fighter Birsa Munda, is built over 50 acres of land inside the Biju Patnaik University of Technology campus in the hockey belt of Odisha.
  • It was built in a record time of 15 months and boasts two FIH approved hockey turfs apart from gymnasiums, a recovery centre and Hockey Village that houses over 200 rooms.
  • With a seating capacity of 20,111 bucket seats, the Birsa Munda Hockey Stadium remained sold out throughout the FIH Odisha Hockey Men’s World Cup 2023 Bhubaneswar-Rourkela with spectators thronging the stadium for India and non-India matches.
  • At the recently-held FIH Hockey Pro League too, where India remained unbeaten against reigning World Champions Germany and Australia, the Birsa Munda Hockey Stadium remained house full.

  • The RBI said it has imposed a penalty of Rs 30 lakh on Karur Vysya Bank for non-compliance with certain provisions related to fraud classification and reporting by commercial banks.
  • In a statement, the Reserve Bank said a Select Scope Inspection (SSI) of the bank was conducted by it from February 21, 2022, to March 4, 2022.
  • An examination of the SSI report and all related correspondence pertaining to the same revealed that the bank failed to report a few accounts as frauds to the RBI within a week of the respective Joint Lenders’ Forum (JLF) decisions to do so, the central bank said.
  • In furtherance to the same, a notice was issued to Karur Vysya Bank, advising it to show cause as to why a penalty should not be imposed on it for failure to comply with the directions issued by the RBI.

  • “I extend best wishes to all of them,” the union minister said.
  • According to a government notification, Justice Pritinker Diwaker has been appointed as Chief Justice of Allahabad High Court.
  • Justice Ramesh Sinha of Allahabad has been appointed as Chief Justice of Chhattisgarh High Court, and Justice K Vinod Chandaran of Kerala High Court as Chief Justice of Patna High Court.

  • The Centre has cleared the third electronics manufacturing cluster for Karnataka, which will be set up in the Dharwad district, Minister of State of Electronics and IT Rajeev Chandrasekhar said.
  • According to the documents shared by the minister on Twitter, the electronics manufacturing cluster (EMC) project will cover an area of 224.5 acre at a cost of over Rs 179 crore, comprising central financial assistance of over Rs 89 crore.
  • ”Today a new Electronics Manufacturing Cluster in Hubli Dharwad is also approved – further expanding Karnataka’s leadership in Electronics,” Chandrasekhar said in a tweet.
    The EMC will be spread over two villages of Kotura and Belura, covering an area of 88.48 and 136.02 acre, respectively.

  • The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs on Friday gave its approval for Minimum Support Price (MSP) for raw jute for 2023-24 season.

  • The MSP of raw jute (TD-3 equivalent to earlier TD-5 grade) has been fixed at Rs 5050 per quintal for the 2023-24 season.
  • This would ensure a return of 63.20 per cent over the all-India weighted average cost of production.
  • The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave its approval to release an additional instalment of Dearness Allowance to central government employees and Dearness Relief to pensioners with effect from January 1, 2023.
  • The additional instalment will represent an increase of 4 per cent over the existing rate of 38 per cent of the basic pay/pension to compensate against price rise.
