  • The Knight Frank Global Residential Cities Index Q2 2023 reveals that the Turkish capital, Ankara, leads the list with the highest growth rate of 105.9 per cent, followed by Istanbul at 85.1 per cent.
  • On the other end of the spectrum, Stockholm ranks lowest in terms of price appreciation with a decline of -14.3 per cent on the Global Residential Cities Index.

  • Four factors were taken into account for calculating the GHI scores: undernourishment (refers to the entire population – both children and adults); child stunting (share of children who have low height for their age); child under-5 mortality; and child wasting (children who have low weight for their height). All these indicators are components of the universally agreed UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
  • With a score of 28.7 on the Global Hunger Index-2023, India has a serious level of serious hunger, the report said.
  • It added that the rate of undernourishment in India stood at 16.6 per cent and under-five mortality at 3.1 per cent.
  • The prevalence of anaemia in women aged between 15 and 24 years stood at 58.1 per cent, according to the controversial index.
  • It ranked the country reporting the highest child-wasting rate, which is based on children’s weight relative to their height, at 18.7 per cent.
  • Global Hunger Index is a tool for comprehensively measuring and tracking hunger at global, regional, and national levels. It is released by the Alliance2015, a network of seven European non-government organisations engaged in humanitarian and development action.
  • The index captures three dimensions of hunger: insufficient availability of food, shortfalls in the nutritional status of children and child mortality (which is, to a large extent, attributable to undernutrition).
  • Belarus, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Chile, China and Croatia are the top five countries in the list

    As a testimony to its ecological and cultural significance in Tamil Nadu, Nilgiri Tahr was declared as a state animal of Tamil Nadu.
  • A Government Order issued in December 2022, said the project aimed at developing a better understanding of Nilgiri Tahr population, distribution and ecology, re-introduction of Nilgiri Tahr to their historic habitats, addressing proximate threat to Nilgiri Tahr besides increasing awareness among public about the species.
  • The Rs 25 crore project, with office in Coimbatore, will focus on bi-annual synchronised surveys across the divisions, tranquilisation, collaring and monitoring of Tahr Individuals, diagnosis and treatment for affected individuals, Shola Grassland restoration in Upper Bhavani, implementation of eco-tourism programmes among the other things.

  • All MSMEs in the manufacturing, service, and trade sector with UDYAM registration in Kerala, and enrolled in the ”Bharat Sookshma/Laghu Udyam scheme” from any of the four public sector insurance firms beyond April 1, 2023, are eligible for benefits under the scheme
  • Enterprises are eligible for a reimbursement of 50 per cent of their annual premium, with a ceiling of Rs 2500.
  • MSMEs can purchase the insurance policy by paying the full annual premium, after which they should submit the application for reimbursement to the concerned DIC through the online portal, along with supporting documents.
  • The scheme will be implemented through the District Industries Centres (DICs), which will process the applications and reimburse the eligible assistance directly to the bank accounts of MSMEs
