  • The prestigious award is given annually by the Nobel Assembly consisting of 50 professors at KarolinskaInstitutet, recognising scientists who have made significant contributions to the field of medicine for the benefit of humankind
  • KatalinKarik, who was born in 1955 in Szolnok, is Professor at Szeged University and an Adjunct Professor at Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania.
  • Meanwhile, Drew Weissman is a Roberts Family Professor in Vaccine Research and Director of the Penn Institute for RNA Innovations.
  • So far, 113 Nobel Prizes in Physiology or Medicine have been awarded since 1901 of which 12 have been given to women.
  • The youngest medicine laureate ever is Frederick G. Banting, who was awarded the 1923 Medicine Prize for the discovery of insulin at the age of 32.
  • Looking back at the previous year, the 2022 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine was awarded to Swedish geneticist Svante Paabo.
  • Paabo, who directs the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology in Leipzig, Germany, was recognised for his groundbreaking work in extracting and analysing DNA from ancient bones, particularly those of Neanderthals.
  • The Nobel Prize announcements are a highly anticipated event every October, with committees convening in Stockholm and Oslo to reveal the laureates.
  • Since its inception in 1901, the Nobel Prize has been awarded to scientists who have made the most important discoveries for the benefit of humankind
  • The Prize for Physiology or Medicine kicks off a week of Nobel Prize announcements. The winners for Physics will be announced on October 3, followed by Chemistry on October 4. The winners of the Literature, Peace and Economic Sciences Prize will be declared on October 5, October 6 and October 9 respectively.

  • The aim of the Summit was to facilitate a seamless transition from the current education ecosystem to one rooted in Bharatiya languages, in line with the vision of NEP 2020 and to set the course for a technologically enriched future for Bharatiya languages in education.
  • The summit encompassed three pivotal thematic sessions: (i) Technology FOR Bharatiya Languages; (ii) Technology IN Bharatiya Languages; and (iii) Technology THROUGH Bharatiya Languages
  • An exhibition was also set up by the AICTE-Anuvadini, Central Institute of Indian Languages, NCERT, Crystal Lab, Multilingual Hub of States and more, which showcased BharatiyaBhasha technology products and their applications by the industries, government organizations and start-ups.
  • The Government of India is celebrating the birthday of renowned Tamil poet and freedom fighter MahakaviChinnaswamiSubramaniaBharati as BharatiyaBhasha Divas (11 December).
  • The BharatiyaBhashaUtsav, which started on 28th September 2023 will run for 75 days and will culminate on 11th December 2023. During this, various events related to Bharatiya languages will be held in schools and higher education institutions.
  • The summit was jointly organized by the Ministry of Education (MOE), Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), and their constituent institutions, such as the Central Institute of Indian Languages (CIIL), University Grants Commission (UGC), National Educational Technology Forum (NETF), All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), National Centre for Vocational & Technical Education (NCVTE), National Council for Teachers Education (NCTE), BharatiyaBhashaSamiti (BBS), and others.
