10. What was the main objective of launching the Anganwadi Protocol for Divyang Children?

  • The Anganwadi Protocol for Divyang Children was launched by the Union Minister for Women and Child Development and Minority Affairs, Smt. Smriti Zubin Irani on 28th November, 2023 at Vigyan Bhawan.
  • The event was organised to realize the commitment for strengthening Divyang children’s overall access to improved well-being.
  • Currently 4.37 crore children from age 3 to 6 years are being supported with hot-cooked meals and ECCE every day, 4.5 crore children of age group 0 to 3 years with take-home rations and home visits, and more than 8 crore children from 0-6 years age group are supported with growth monitoring and referrals to the health system to enhance early childhood development.
  • 16 crore home visits have been undertaken for children in the last 4 months by Anganwadi workers.
  • Aligned with Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi’s vision of a Swasth Suposhit Bharat in Amrit Kaal, this protocol embodies following approach.
    • Screening for early disability signs
    • Inclusion in community events and empowering families
    • Referral support via ASHA/ANM & Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK) teams.
  • Rs. 300 crore is being allocated for training, and capacity building of Anganwadi Workers.

  • According to Census 2011, 2.2% people are disabled in India, which is about 3 crore adjusted to the current population.
  • Department of Public with Disabilities has released 1 crore UDID card or Unique Disability Identity cards and the age, gender, district segregated data is uploaded online.
  • Poshan Abhiyan was launched by the Prime Minister on 8th March 2018 with an aim to achieve improvement in nutritional status of Children under 6 years, Adolescent Girls, Pregnant Women and Lactating Mothers in a time bound manner by adopting a synergised and result-oriented approach.

  • Proposal for second indigenous aircraft carrier, IAC II with a displacement of 45,000 tonnes which is estimated to cost close to Rs 40,000 crore.
  • Note: India’s first indigenously-built aircraft carrier INS Vikrant (IAC I) was commissioned in September by Prime Minister Narendra Modi
  • The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, cleared the projects at a time India is locked in a bitter military standoff with China at a number of friction points in eastern Ladakh for over three years.

Background:

  • In February 2021, the Defence Ministry sealed a Rs 48,000 crore deal with the HAL for procurement of 83 Tejas MK-1A jets for the IAF.
  • With the additional fleet, the number of indigenously-developed Tejas aircraft being procured by the IAF would go up to 180.

  • Jan Aushadhi Kendra, 1 Nirmala Plaza, A Block, 1A Forest Park, Bhubaneswar, OdishaJan Aushadhi Kendra at Bal Bhim, Palhana Block, District Kolhapur, Maharashtra
  • The Government had set a target to increase the number of Jan Aushadhi Kendras to 10,000 by March 2024.
  • However, it has achieved the target of opening of 10,000 Janaushadhi Kendras prior to its target.
  • 25,000 Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Kendras (PMBJK’s) are proposed to be opened across the Country by 31st March 2026.

  • With an objective of making quality generic medicines available at affordable prices to all, Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP) was launched by the Department of Pharmaceuticals, Ministry of Chemicals & Fertilizers.
  • The product basket of PMBJP comprises 1963 medicines and 293 surgical devices covering all major therapeutic groups.

Green Credit Initiative:

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to launch a green credits initiative, aimed at encouraging the establishment of plantations in the COP 28.
  • This initiative is co-hosted by India and the UAE.
  • A green credits program – defining it as a “market-based mechanism designed to incentivize voluntary environmental actions across diverse sectors by various stakeholders like individuals, communities, private sector industries, and companies,”
  • The program, which will initially focus on water conservation and afforestation, envisions issuing green credits for plantations on waste and degraded lands, and river catchment areas.

LeadIT 2.0:

  • The Prime Minister will also launch another initiative called LeadIT 2.0, meant as a ‘Leadership Group for Industry Transition’, co-hosted by India and Sweden.
  • LeadIT 2.0 is a joint initiative launched by India and Sweden in 2019 at the UN Climate Action Summit in New York.
  • It is aimed at fostering collaboration among decision-makers, as well as bringing together public and private sector companies to aid in the acceleration of industry transition to net-zero emissions.
  • Prime Minister Modi will also be participating in another high-level event, titled Transforming Climate Finance, which is to be hosted by the Presidency of the COP28.
