  • Following a stagnation in its HDI value in 2021, India’s HDI value surged to 0.644 in 2022, showcasing improvements across vital indicators including life expectancy, education, and Gross National Income (GNI) per capita.
  • Life expectancy in India rose from 67.2 to 67.7 years, while expected years of schooling reached 12.6, and mean years of schooling increased to 6.57.
  • Additionally, GNI per capita saw a rise from $6,542 to $6,951.
  • The report highlights India’s progress in reducing gender inequality, with the country’s Gender Inequality Index (GII) value of 0.437 better than both the global and South Asian averages.

  • Set up by the Media Foundation in 1980, the Chameli Devi Jain Award for Outstanding Woman Media Person of the Year is named after Chameli Devi Jain, a freedom fighter and community reformer who was imprisoned during India’s independence movement.
  • The first award was given in 1982 and since then, it has been presented every year to those practising impactful journalism in fields such as social development, politics, gender justice, human rights, health, conflict and consumer values.

  • 45 personnel each from the GORKHA RIFLES of the Indian Army and Seychelles Defence Forces (SDF) will participate in the exercise.
  • The aim of the Exercise is to enhance interoperability in Sub-conventional Operations in Semi-Urban environment under Chapter VII of the United Nations Charter on Peace Keeping Operations.
  • The Exercise will enhance cooperation and interoperability between both the sides during Peace Keeping Operations.
