  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled a 125-foot bronze statue of Ahom general Lachit Borphukan at his burial site in eastern Assam’s Jorhat district.
  • It was unveiled at the Lachit Barphukan Maidam Development Project at Hollongapar, an area spread over 16.5 acres, which is being developed as a tourist spot.
  • The total project cost will be Rs 214 crore.
  • Veteran sculptor Ram Vanji Sutar, a Padma Bhushan awardee, built the statue.
  • He had earlier crafted the Statue of Unity in Gujarat.
  • A gallery showcasing the history of the Ahom dynasty’s 600 years of rule is being built, while another gallery is being set up for the contemporary history of Assam.
  • An auditorium with a capacity of 500 people is also being built.

About Lachit Borphukan:

  • Lachit Borphukan was a legendary army commander of the Ahom kingdom (1228-1826), known for his leadership in the 1671 ‘Battle of Saraighat’.
  • He defeated the Mughal forces, led by Raja Ramsingh-I, in this battle, and thwarted a drawn-out attempt by them to take back Assam.
  • He was buried at the ‘maidam’ — burial grounds for Ahom royals and nobles — at Hollongapar, after passing away a year after the battle at the age of 49 due to illness.

  • It is a form of painting — also originating in the 16th century — done on sanchi pat, or manuscripts made of the bark of the sanchi or agar tree, using homemade ink.
  • The earliest example of an illustrated manuscript is said to be a rendering of the Adya Dasama of the Bhagwat Purana in Assamese by Srimanta Sankardev.

  • It will also provide direct connectivity to the IGI Airport in Delhi and Gurugram Bypass.
  • Other major projects inaugurated by the Prime Minister include the 9.6 km long six lane Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II)- Package 3 from Nangloi – Najafgarh Road to Sector 24 Dwarka section in Delhi; three packages of Lucknow Ring Road developed at cost of about Rs. 4,600 crores in Uttar Pradesh; Anandapuram – Pendurthi – Anakapalli section of NH16 developed at a cost of about Rs. 2,950 crores in the state of Andhra Pradesh; Kiratpur to Nerchowk section of NH-21 (2 packages) worth around Rs. 3,400 crores in Himachal Pradesh; Dobaspet – Heskote section (two packages) worth Rs. 2,750 crores in Karnataka, along with 42 other projects worth Rs. 20,500 crores in different states across the country.
  • The Prime Minister also laid the foundation stone for various National Highway projects across the country.
  • Major projects for which the foundation stone will be laid include 14 packages of Bengaluru – Kadappa – Vijayawada Expressway worth Rs. 14,000 crores in Andhra Pradesh; six packages of Belgaum – Hungund – Raichur Section of NH-748A worth Rs. 8,000 crores in Karnataka; three packages of Shamli – Ambala Highway worth Rs. 4,900 crores in Haryana; two packages of Amritsar – Bathinda corridor worth Rs. 3,800 crores in Punjab; along with 39 other projects worth Rs. 32,700 crores in different states across the country.

  • Additionally, the parties aim to implement measures to enhance efficiency and reduce the generation cost of the plant’s existing units.
  • The MoU also includes the undertaking of 15 to 20-year annuity-based Renovation and Modernization (R&M) of old thermal units of RRVUNL by NTPC or its affiliates.
  • NTPC Green Energy (NGEL) inked the MoU with RVUNL for the development of Renewable Energy (RE) projects and green hydrogen derivatives up to 25 GW and one million tonnes capacities, respectively, in Rajasthan.
  • Mining behemoth Coal India (CIL) also signed a MoU RRVUNL for exploration and execution of 4,100 MW capacity power projects.
  • The proposed projects include 1,600 MW coal based pit-head power plant to come up in a coal bearing state, whose power would be drawn by Rajasthan.
  • Others are a 2,000 MW solar power project in RRVUNL’s solar park; 200 MW pump storage project at Jawahar Sagar; a 250 MW of solar project on the land acquired for Banswara TPP by RRVUNL and 50 MW wind project at the existing Ramgarh gas project in Jaisalmer.
  • lignite miner NLCIL signed the MOU with the Rajasthan government for formation of a joint venture to set up a 125 MW lignite-based power plant and 1,000 MW solar power plant.
  • The MoU entails an investment of more than Rs 7,000 crore.
  • SJVN Green Energy (SGEL), a subsidiary of SJVN, signed a long term power usage agreement (PUA) for 500 MW solar power.
  • Under the agreement, SGEL would supply 500 MW power at a tariff of Rs 2.57 per unit, from the 1,000 MW Bikaner Solar Power Project being developed by SGEL under Phase-II (Tranche-3) of the Central Public Sector Units Scheme.

  • The Curriculum is structured to provide a weekly calendar comprising 36 weeks of active learning, 8 weeks of reinforcement and 4 weeks of initiation, together with 5+1 days of play-based learning in one week, and three blocks of activities in one day.
  • It provides for a combination of activities, including in-centre and at-home, indoor and outdoor, child-led and educator-led etc.
  • Robust assessment tools are provided for tracking progress, tailoring learning, and celebrating each child’s unique journey.
