  • HDFC Bank is at 128th position (153 in 2022) and ICICI Bank is at 163 (204 in 2022). Other Indian firms on the list include state-owned Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) at 226 and HDFC at 232. Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) made its maiden entry at 363 while Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) slipped to 387th rank from 384 last year.
  • Axis Bank (423), NTPC (433), Larsen & Toubro (449), Bharti Airtel (478), Kotak Mahindra Bank (502), Indian Oil Corporation (540), Infosys (554), Bank of Baroda (586), Coal India (591), Tata Steel (592), Hindalco (660) and Vedanta (687) are other notable Indian firms on the list.
  • In all, 55 Indian firms figured on the list.

  • Azista BST Aerospace is an Indo-German satellite-making collaboration. Azista Industries Pvt. Ltd of India owns 70 percent of the company and Berlin Space Technologies GmbH of Germany owns the other 30 percent in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, for manufacturing small ‘Made in India’ satellites for the world market.
  • ABA has an installed yearly manufacturing capacity of 100 microsatellites.
  • The company’s target is to make about 100 satellites per year that would weigh between 50-200 kg.

  • The project will also help create an ecosystem to enhance farmers’ access to markets of subtropical horticulture, adding, the farmers will be organised into cluster-wide community horticulture production and marketing associations (CHPMAs) and district-wide CHPMA cooperative societies.

  • Under the terms of the collaboration, Thyssenkrupp will be responsible for the engineering and design aspects, while Mazagon Dock will oversee the construction and delivery of the six submarines that the Indian Navy has tendered.
  • The company signed an MoU with the shipbuilding company, Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited, to explore the construction of conventional, air-independent-propulsion submarines.
  • The ceremony, held on 7 June 2023 in Mumbai, was attended by Boris Pistorius, the German Defence Minister.
  • In March, the central government allocated a budget of $6.8 billion for the Indian Navy.
  • The military division at present operates 16 conventional submarines, 11 of which are over 20 years old, alongside two domestically developed nuclear-powered submarines.
  • Early last year, The Israeli Ministry of Defence agreed to purchase three new Dakar-class submarines from Germany’s ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems in a deal worth $3.4bn
  • As recently as 2018, Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders awarded a contract to Germany-based Thyssenkrupp Marine Systems to overhaul and upgrade the Indian Navy’s Shishumar-class submarine INS Shishumar.
  • In 2021, ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems were commissioned to construct six new Type 212 Common Design submarines for the Norwegian and German Navies. Valued at around €5.5bn ($5.8bn), the contracts involved the delivery of two 212CD submarines to Germany and the remaining four to Norway.

  • The ship has been named Anjadip to signify the strategic maritime importance accorded to the island of Anjadip, located off Karwar.
  • The island is connected to the mainland by a breakwater and is part of INS Kadamba. On completion of the event VAdm R B Pandit also laid the keel for the 7th ASW SWC ship.
  • The contract for building eight ASW SWC ships was signed between MoD and Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE), Kolkata on 29 Apr 19.
  • As per the build strategy, four ships are being built at GRSE, Kolkata and construction of balance four ships has been sub-contracted to M/s L&T Shipbuilding, Kattupalli.
  • Arnala class of ships will replace the in-service Abhay class ASW Corvettes of Indian Navy and are designed to undertake anti-submarine operations in coastal waters, Low Intensity Maritime Operations (LIMO), and Mine Laying operations including subsurface surveillance in littoral waters.
  • The 77 m long ASW SWC ships have a displacement of 900 tons with a maximum speed of 25 knots and endurance of 1800 NM.

‘Sanshodhak’, Fourth Ship Of Survey Vessel (Large) Project

  • ‘Sanshodhak’, the fourth of four ships of Survey Vessels (Large) (SVL) Project, being built by L&T/ GRSE for Indian Navy was launched at Kattupalli, Chennai.
  • The chief guest of the Launch Ceremony was VAdm Adhir Arora, Chief Hydrographer to Government of India.
  • The ship named ‘Sanshodhak’, meaning ‘Researcher’, signifies the primary role of the ship as a Survey Vessel.
  • The contract for building four SVL ships was signed between MoD and Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE), Kolkata on 30 Oct 18.
  • As per the build strategy, the first ship would be built at GRSE, Kolkata and construction of the remaining three ships upto outfitting stage, has been sub-contracted to M/s L&T Shipbuilding, Kattupalli.
  • The first three ships of the project, Sandhayak, Nirdeshak and Ikshak were launched on 05 Dec 21, 26 May 22 and 26 Nov 22 respectively.
  • SVL ships will replace the existing Sandhayak Class survey ships, with new generation hydrographic equipment, to collect oceanographic data.
  • The Survey Vessel (Large) ships are 110 m long, 16 m wide with a displacement of 3,400 tons.
  • The hull of these ships is made from indigenously developed DMR 249-A steel manufactured by Steel Authority of India Limited.
