  • The weapon called Fattah (Conqueror in Persian) was described as the “latest achievement of the Aerospace Force of the Revolutionary Guards” (IRGC) by IRNA
  • The weapon has a range of 1,400 kilometers (870 miles) and a top speed of Mach13 to 15.
  • Hypersonic missiles are weapon systems designed to travel at speeds greater than Mach 5, which is five times the speed of sound or approximately 6,174 kilometers per hour (3,836 miles per hour).
  • The speed and manoeuvrability of hypersonic missiles make them extremely challenging to detect and intercept.
  • In September 2022, the United States Air Force awarded Raytheon and Northrop Grumman a contract to develop the Hypersonic Attack Cruise Missile (HACM), a scramjet-powered air-launched cruise missile based on the results of the Hypersonic Air-breathing Weapon Concept (HAWC) program.
  • China already fields two ground-launched hypersonic weapons, the DF-17 and the DF-21, and is developing a third missile called the YJ-21 to be launched from a ship.

  • Varunastra was designed and developed by Vizag-based Naval Science and Technological Laboratory (NSTL) under the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and is manufactured by Bharat Dynamics Ltd (BDL).
  • Annual report of 2015-16, the NSTL and the Indian Navy have jointly conducted a total of 130 technical trials to evaluate the weapon in all aspects of its capabilities.
  • A total of 14 User trials including trials in the months of January 2015 and March 2015 with different scenarios have also been completed. Final sentencing of Varunastra UETs meeting was held in September 2015.
  • Varunastra has been accepted by IHQ MoD (Navy) for induction into Services.
  • According to BDL, the torpedo, with a maximum speed of 40 knots and a maximum operating depth of 600 m, has a long range with multi-manoeuvering capabilities and is capable of acoustic homing with a wide look angle capable of tracking silent targets. It features autonomous advanced guidance algorithms and has drift navigational systems over long endurance.
  • Just last week, MH-60 ‘Romeo’ multi-mission helicopter took its maiden landing on the indigenously-built aircraft carrier INS Vikrant. MH-60R helicopter manufactured by Lockheed Martin Corporation is an all-weather helicopter designed to support multiple missions with state-of-the-art avionics and sensors.

  • This training will empower young students with industry-relevant skills, enhancing their employability, and connecting them to relevant job opportunities.
  • These trained faculty members can then train ITI students attending computer operator and programming assistant (COPA) training.
  • The CyberShikshaa program focusing on basic and intermediate cybersecurity skills training will also be expanded to students and educators at 10 NSTIs for women.

  • Social Security Code, 2020 aims to amend and consolidate the existing labour laws relating to social security with the wider goal of extending social security benefits to all employees and workers, both in the organised as well as unorganised sector
    The Code on Social Security ,2020 subsumes nine central labour laws including the Employees’ Compensation Act, 1923, The Employees’ State Insurance Act, 1948, The Employees’ Provident Funds and Miscellaneous Provisions Act, 1952, The Employment Exchanges (Compulsory Notification of Vacancies) Act, 1959, The Maternity Benefit Act, 1961, The Payment of Gratuity Act, 1972, The Cine Workers Welfare Fund Act, 1981,
