  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the foundation stone of 550 Amrit Bharat stations to improve facilities at railway stations by developing rooftop plazas and city centres at a cost of Rs 40,000 crore.
  • He will also lay the foundation stone of nearly 1,500 road overbridges and underbridges across different states during a function that will be conducted virtually at over 2,000 railway stations.
  • Prizes will also be given to about 50,000 school students who had participated in speech, essay and poetry writing competitions on the “2047 – Viksit Bharat ki Railway” theme.

Amrit Bharat Station Scheme:

  • Amrit Bharat Station Scheme is an ongoing Indian Railways mission launched in February 2023 by Ministry of Railways to redevelop 1275 stations nationwide.
  • It involves preparation of Master Plans and their implementation in phases to improve the amenities at the stations like improvement of station access, circulating areas, waiting halls, toilets, lift/escalators as necessary, cleanliness, free Wi-Fi, kiosks for local products through schemes like ‘One Station One Product’, better passenger information systems, Executive Lounges, nominated spaces for business meetings, landscaping etc. keeping in view the necessity at each station.
  • The scheme also envisages improvement of building, integrating the station with both sides of the city, multimodal integration, amenities for Divyangjans, sustainable and environment friendly solutions, provision of ballastless tracks, ‘Roof Plazas’ as per necessity, phasing and feasibility and creation of city centres at the station in the long term.
  • The scheme envisages high-level platforms (760-840 millimetres) at all categories of stations.
  • According to the scheme, the length of the platforms shall generally be 600 metres.

  • This project aims to benefit students aged 10-18 years enrolled in classes 6th to 12th in 55 identified EMRS across 14 States of the country.
