  • A report by crypto trading platform CoinSwitch showed Delhi maintained its lead in India’s crypto adoption, followed by Bangalore and Mumbai.

  • According to the report, more than 20 per cent of India’s total crypto investments are concentrated in the three major metropolitan areas: Delhi (9 per cent), Bangalore (8 per cent) and Mumbai (5 per cent). Ghaziabad claimed the 10th position in the list of the top invested cities, replacing Patna.
  • Bitcoin, which the company claims to be the most prominent crypto, ended with more than 150 per cent year-on-year (compared with last year).
  • Ethereum and several meme coins also ended the year in green.
  • After touching a low of less than $1 trillion in June 2022, the total crypto market capitalisation grew to over $1.5 trillion by December 2023.

  • Two states, Rajasthan and Andhra Pradesh have deployed higher capacities through the solar park scheme.
  • The Scheme for “Development of Solar Parks and Ultra Mega Solar Power Projects” was rolled out in December 2014 with an aggregate capacity of 20,000 MW.
  • Further, the capacity of the Solar Park Scheme was enhanced to 40,000 MW in March 2017 to set up at least 50 Solar Parks.
  • The timeline of the scheme is up to 2023-24.
  • The objective of this scheme is to provide land and transmission to RE developers on a plug-and-play basis. i.e, the infrastructure such as land, roads, power evacuation system water facilities are developed with all statutory clearances/approvals.
  • It is estimated that 4-5 acres per MW of land is required for setting up of solar parks.
  • Under the above scheme, 50 Solar Parks with an aggregate capacity of 37,490 MW have been sanctioned as of November 30, 2023.
  • Against sanctioned capacity, 11 solar parks with aggregate capacity of 8521 MW have been completed and 8 solar parks with aggregate capacity of 4910 MW have been partially completed. Thus, solar projects of aggregate capacity of 10,401 MW have been developed in States and 4 States are yet to commission any capacity.
  • Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh have been sanctioned 9 parks (for a capacity of 8276 MW), 8 parks (4180 MW), 7 parks (3730 MW), 7 parks (12,150 MW) and 5 parks (4200 MW) respectively.
  • Of the 10,401 MW capacity, Rajasthan has so far commissioned 3065 MW of capacity, while Andhra Pradesh has commissioned 3050 MW. Karnataka and Madhya Pradesh have commissioned 2000 MW and 1000 MW capacity respectively.
  • Under the solar park scheme, the Union Ministry of New and Renewable Energy provides Central Financial Assistance (CFA) of up to Rs 25 lakh per solar park for the preparation of a Detailed Project Report (DPR).
  • Besides this, CFA of up to Rs 20 lakh per MW or 30 per cent of the project cost, including grid-connectivity cost, whichever is lower, is also provided for achieving the milestones prescribed in the scheme.
  • The total Central Grants approved under the Scheme is Rs 8,100 crore.
  • Solar Energy Corporation of India & Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency (IREDA) implement the scheme and also handle the funds being made available under the scheme.

Zero effect Zero Defect (ZED) Scheme:

  • MSME Sustainable (ZED) Certification is an extensive drive to create awareness amongst MSMEs about Zero Defect Zero Effect (ZED) practices and motivate and incentivise them for ZED Certification while also encouraging them to become MSME Champions.
  • It aims to promote manufacturing without any negative impact on the environment, has now been made completely free for women-led MSMEs.
  • In addition, the government will guarantee payment of 100 per cent financial support for the certification cost under the scheme.

Raising and Accelerating MSME Productivity (RAMP):

  • It is a World Bank-assisted program that aims to improve the performance of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in India.
  • The scheme was launched on 30 July 2022 by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri. Narendra Modi and implemented by the Ministry of MSME, Government of India.

  • The bill cements rules for spectrum allocation and provides for a non-auction route for giving airwaves for satellite-based communication services.
  • It also lays down stringent provisions for phone number spoofing for fraud and moots a “digital-by-design” online grievance redressal mechanism for addressing users’ complaints.
  • The provision of stringent punishment has been made for violators, which ranges from three years jail to a punishment of upto 50 lakh rupees.
  • The Telecommunications Bill, 2023 also seeks to tighten the noose on pesky callers through various means, including by checking misuse of SIM.

Biggest impact the Telecom Bill 2023 will have on the common men:

  1. Obtaining a SIM or other telecom resources through fraud, personation, or cheating, will result in a jail term of up to three years and a fine of Rs 50 lakh.
  2. The new Telecom bill has a provision for crimes related to spoofing or cloning of SIM cards. Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel, and Vodafone Idea have warned their subscribers against the cloning of SIM cards.
  3. Consent of mobile users will be required for receiving advertising/promotional messages under this bill.
  4. The press messages of correspondents accredited to the Centre or state governments will not be intercepted or detained unless their transmission has been prohibited under rules applicable to public emergency and public order.
  5. Under the Telecommunications Bill, 2023, the telecom operators have been mandated to capture verifiable biometrics data when they issue a new connection

Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan (PM JANMAN):

  • Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan (PM-JANMAN) initiative for the upliftment of tribal people
  • The Union Cabinet has approved the Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan, which focuses on 11 critical interventions for Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups.
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced the scheme on Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas (15th November 2023) in Jharkhand’s Khunti.
  • The scheme aims to provide pucca houses, piped water supply and roads.
  • The total outlay for the Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan (PM-JANMAN) has been pegged at Rs 24,104 crore, of which the central share will be Rs 15,336 crore and the states will contribute Rs 8,768 crore.
  • “Over 28,16,000 (28.16 lakh) tribal people from 220 districts in 18 states and one Union Territory will benefit from this scheme.
  • India has a Scheduled Tribe population of 10.45 crore, according to the 2011 census.
  • Of the total, 75 communities in 18 states and the Union Territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands have been categorised as PVTGs.

Targets:

  • To provide 4.90 lakh pucca homes at a cost of Rs 2.39 lakh per house
