World Laughter Day:

  • Each year, the first Sunday of May is celebrated as the World Laughter Day.

History of World Tuna Day 2021:

  • In the year 2016, the General Assembly of the UN declared May 2 as World Tuna Day to spread awareness among people regarding the importance of conserving Tuna fish.
  • In the past few years, the population of Tuna fish has declined by more than
    97 per cent due to overfishing and Illegal fishing.
  • So to save Tuna from getting extinct, the UN announced the day and appeal to people to conserve Tuna

History of International Astronomy Day:

  • In the year 1973, the then president of the Astronomical Association of Northern California, Doug Berger started the celebration of astronomy day.
  • He wanted to set up various telescopes in and around the busy urban areas with an intention to encourage the passerby to enjoy the heavenly astronomical views.
  • This was the reason he started the celebration of Astronomy Day. The response this event received since its establishment has been remarkable.
  • The event eventually expanded and attracted world-wide attention. Now many countries of the world celebrate Astronomy Day.
  • International Astronomy Day is celebrated twice in a year — once in spring and once in autumn.
  • The International Astronomy Day also forms part of the National Astronomy Week.
  • At present, Astronomy Day is formally sponsored by many astronomy related organizations.
  • The Spring Astronomy Day usually occurs between mid-April & mid-May on a Saturday closest to the first quarter Moon.
  • Similarly, the Autumn Astronomy Day occurs between September and October on a Saturday closest to the first quarter Moon.

  • Last year, Sankar was appointed as the chairman of the Indian Financial Technology and Allied Services, an RBI subsidiary.
  • Before that, he also worked with the International Monetary Fund on bond markets development for the government and also with the central bank of Bangladesh.

  • NASA announced that US Vice President Kamala Harris will chair the National Space Council.

  • On International Labour Day, the state launched a universal health scheme covering all families, which will provide cashless insurance of coverage of Rs 5 lakh.
  • Under the Mukhyamantri Chiranjeevi Yojna, free insurance can be availed by all families that come under BPL, NFSA, SECC, and several other schemes for the poor and under-privileged sections of the society.
  • The families that are not covered under any of these programmes can avail the insurance by paying an annual installment of Rs 850.
  • This ambitious Rs 3,500 crore scheme was announced in the state budget in February. Registrations for it began on April 1.
