World Suicide Prevention Day being observed:

• World Suicide Prevention Day is observed on September 10th every year to highlight various ways by which suicide can be prevented.
• This day was marked on September 10, 2003, for the first time as an initiative by the International Association for Suicide Prevention (IASP) and the World Health Organization (WHO) who teamed up to create a day dedicated to a very important message: suicides are preventable.
• The first year of the day was a success, so in 2004, the WHO formally agreed to co-sponsor the event again, making it an annually recognized day.
• In 2011 about 40 countries organised awareness events to mark the occasion.
• The theme this year is “Creating hope through action”, according to Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), to stress the importance of collective action to address this issue.

• The drive is in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas.
• The BharatPe, Mswipe, PhonePe, Paytm, Aceware are participating in this drive to issue UPI IDs, QR code and provide digital training.
• Digital Payment Aggregators will handhold the street vendors to bring about enhanced adoption of digital transactions and behaviour change.
• To promote digital transactions instruction has been issued to the Lending Institutions to handover a durable QR Code and train the beneficiaries for conducting digital receipt and payment transactions within a week of disbursement.
• So far, 45.5 lakh applications have been received.
