National Legal Services Day 2021:

  • National Legal Services Day is marked across the country annually on 9 November.
  • The day is observed to commemorate the enactment of the Legal Services Authorities Act and to create awareness about the various provisions related to the act.

Date of National Legal Services Day:

  • The Legal Services Authorities Act was enacted in 1987 to provide a “statutory base to legal aid programmes” in India on a uniform pattern, according to the website of the National Legal Services Authority of India (NALSA).
  • After a lot of deliberation and some amendments, the Legacy Services Authorities Act came into existence on 9 November 1995.
  • The purpose of the Act is to provide competent and free legal aid to people who belonged to marginalised socio-economic communities in the country.
  • The Act also mentions the setting up of Lok Adalats for the settlement of disputes amicably.
  • Since then, the passing of the Act has been every year through awareness programmes and camps about the provisions of the Legal Services Authorities Act.

  • She was born in Tarkpora, a remote village in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district, 56km from Srinagar.

Chess: Indian GM Arjun Erigaisi impresses in Lindores Abbey Blitz event, finishes third:

  • Young Indian Grandmaster Arjun Erigaisi came up with an impressive performance to finish third in the Lindores Abbey Blitz tournament, organised to mark the 85th birth anniversary of legendary chess player Mikhail Tal.
  • The 18-year-old Erigaisi started in a brilliant manner and won all of his first nine games before slipping up.
  • He gained over 107.2 blitz rating points to enter the world top 30 at 2723 Elo with his performance in the tournament late.
  • The Indian GM scored 9.5 points out of 10 games, crushing along the way the likes of Levon Aronian, David Howell and Rauf Mamedov with 2-0 margins, and convincingly beating American ace Fabiano Caruana in the first game of their match.
  • However, towards the final rounds, it was Ukrainian GM Kirill Shevchenko who took the spotlight, delivering a 2-0 blow to the Indian in their direct duel.
  • Erigaisi finished on 13.5 points, equal with Caruana but took third prize on the basis of the tie-break score.
  • He earned USD 6,000 for his efforts.
  • The teenager scored 13 wins from 18 games, apart from one draw and lost four.
  • The 19-year-old Shevchenko scored 14 points out of 18 games in a nine-double-round tournament to emerge champion.

  • Caruana drew his game with Levon Aronian to finish on 13.5 points, hoping to be first on tie-breaks.

  • In a wild game with many ups and downs, he defeated Armenian GM Martirosyan (who blundered a checkmate in one in a drawn position) and finished half a point ahead of the field.

  • Rashid Khan graced the title of the youngest bowler to pick 400 T20 wickets when he scalped the wicket of Martin Guptill during Afghanistan’s Super 12 Group 2 match of the T20 World Cup against New Zealand in Abu Dhabi.
  • The 23-year-old achieved the feat in his 289th T20 match.
  • Adding his name to the elite panel, Rashid became the fourth bowler after Dwayne Bravo (553 wickets), Sunil Narine (425 wickets), Imran Tahir (420 wickets) to enter the 400-wicket club.
  • Earlier, Rashid had also become the quickest bowler to register 100 wickets in T20Is in the ongoing T20 World Cup
  • Rashid also holds the record for most T20 scalps in a calendar year, having picked a staggering 96 wickets in 2018.

  • To begin with, Indian Bank, in a statement here said the initiative would dispense with the need for a personal visit to any branch of the bank to complete the physical verification process in place, currently.
  • The Video KYC facility, developed in conjunction with Gieom Business Solutions, further simplifies the subsequent steps and would deliver the cheque book and ATM card to the registered address of a customer.
  • Customers can proceed to deposit the minimum balance through offline or online route and transact seamlessly using the ATM card and mobile banking after completing the initiation procedures.
  • The pre-requisites to avail the Video KYC facility are a valid mobile number, e-mail, PAN Card, Aadhaar number (linked with mobile number) and access to a computer equipped with camera and a microphone facility.
  • The process validates the applicant’s credentials from multiple sources like a bank representative initiated video-call, information from UIDAI, and OTP for registration of the mobile number, the statement added.
