1. International Women’s Day 2022:

International Women’s Day (IWD), celebrated on March 8.
To Raise awareness about women’s equality, lobby for accelerated gender parity and fundraise for female-focused charities.

Theme:

The campaign theme for International Women’s Day 2022 is #BreakTheBias.

History:

The first National Woman’s Day(NWD) was observed across the US on February 28.
Then Women continued to celebrate NWD on the last Sunday of February until 1913.
In 1975, the United Nations commemorated the first official International Women’s Day on March 8.

Colors symbolize International Women’s Day:

Purple, green and white are the colors of International Women’s Day.
Purple signifies justice and dignity. Green symbolizes hope. White represents purity, albeit a controversial concept.
The colors originated from the Women’s Social and Political Union (WSPU) in the UK in 1908.

2. All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja became the sixth cricketer to register a score of 150+ and take five wickets in the same Test:

Jadeja achieved the feat on Day 3 of the ongoing first Test against Sri Lanka as he took five wickets in the first innings.
Earlier, the left-handed batter played an unbeaten knock of 175 to help India post a 450+ score against Sri Lanka.Earlier, Vinoo Mankad, Denis Atkinson, Polly Umrigar, Gary Sobers and Mushtaq Mohammad had achieved the feat.

3. Mithali becomes first woman to play in six World Cups:

Mithali Joined with the iconic Sachin Tendulkar and Pakistani great Javed Miandad.
She achieved the feat as India locked horns with arch-rivals Pakistan in their much-anticipated opening match of the ICC Women’s World Cup at the Bay Oval.
She had made her maiden World Cup appearance in 2000, before playing the event in 2005, 2009, 2013, 2017 and in 2022.
In the women’s game, the Indian batter surpassed former New Zealand cricketer Debbie Hockley and Charlotte Edwards of England.
Fast bowler Jhulan Goswami, stands second on the list with five World Cup appearance.
Tendulkar, the holder of innumerable batting records, is the only Indian cricketer apart from Raj to feature in six World Cups, starting from 1992 to the triumphant campaign in 2011.

4. Former PM Vajpayee’s long-time aide Shiv Kumar Pareek passes away:

Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s long-time aide Shiv Kumar Pareek , the personal secretary of former Prime Minister Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who supported Vajpayee for almost 60 years.
Shiv Kumar Pareek used to work with AB Vajpayee as a personal assistant.
On many occasions, Atal Bihari Vajpayee had also participated in programs held at Shiv Kumar Pareek’s house.
Vajpayee had passed away on August 16, 2018.

5. SBI, PHDCCI organise outreach programme to help SMEs in Punjab:

PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI) in association with the State Bank of India (SBI) organised an outreach programme in Amritsar to help small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Punjab.
‘SBI-PHDCCI Industry Roundtable Meet’ at Amritsar was attended by the key policymakers from SBI and Punjab’s industries to ideate this programme.
To support the economic fundamentals and strengthen the business ecosystem.

6. India’s first indigenous flying trainer HANSA-NG completes sea-level trials:

India’s first indigenous flying trainer ‘HANSA-NG’ designed and developed by CSIR-National Aerospace Laboratories, has successfully completed the sea-level trials at Puducherry from February 19 to March 5.
The aircraft was flown Puducherry covering a distance of 140 nautical miles in 1.5 hours at a cruising speed of 155 km/hr.
Aircraft was ferried back to Bengaluru on March 5, after completing 18 hours flying in Puducherry
The aircraft was piloted by Wing Commander K V Prakash and Wing Commander Dilip Reddy of Aircraft & Systems Testing Establishment (ASTE), and the flight was monitored by NAL designers and Wg. Cdr. Reeju Chakraborty as Flight Test Director from telemetry.
HANSA-NG is one of the most advanced flying trainers powered by Rotax Digital Control Engine with unique features like Just-In-Time Prepreg (JIPREG) Composite Lightweight Airframe, glass cockpit, bubble canopy with wide panoramic view, electrically operated flaps, etc.
It is an ideal aircraft for Commercial Pilot Licensing (CPL).
According to NAL Director Jitendra J Jadhav, a total of 37 flights and 50 hours of flying have been completed.

7. N Korea tests reconnaissance satellite:

North Korea has tested another ‘reconnaissance satellite’
The North’s National Aerospace Development Administration (NADA) and the Academy of Defence Science conducted another important test under the plan of developing a reconnaissance satellite.
Through the test, data transmission and reception system of the satellite’s reliability, its control command system and various ground-based control systems.
The launch was detected from around the Sunan area in Pyongyang and the missile flew around 270 km at a top altitude of 560 km.

8. ARIES and IIT Roorkee students will soon be able to participate in joint PhD programmes:

Students of Aryabhatta Research Institute of Observational Sciences, ARIES and Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee, IITR will soon be able to participate in joint PhD programmes.
IIT Roorkee students can do projects on the ongoing activities at ARIES utilizing the various existing and upcoming facilities at ARIES.
Through a Memorandum of Understanding signed between ARIES with Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee for academic cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
The aim of this partnership is to bring the researchers of IIT Roorkee and ARIES closer to each other so as to use their respective strengths to jointly address interesting scientific and engineering problems.

9. 15th International Children’s Film Festival begins in Dhaka:

The 15th International Children’s Film Festival kicked off in Dhaka with the screening of German filmmaker Dennis Gansel-directed film Jim Button and the Wild 13.
The festival was inaugurated through virtual mode by the Information and Broadcasting Minister of Bangladesh Hasan Mahmud.
State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak was present as special guest on the occasion.
The festival will showcase 117 films from 38 countries selected out of 2100 films submitted for the festival.
They will compete in the international competition category which has eminent film personalities from Bangladesh Giasuddin Selim, Amitabh Reza Chowdhury and Shabnam Ferdousi as jury members.
Young Bangladeshi filmmakers between the age of 19-25 are competing under the Young Bangladeshi Talent category. Nine Bangladeshi films are being showcased at the festival.
Four workshops are also being organised during the festival in which eminent filmmakers from Bangladesh will take part. The week-long festival will end on March 11.
Children’s Film Society Bangladesh has been organising the film festival since 2008.

10. Karnataka govt approves 48 industrial projects worth Rs 2,062 cr:

The Karnataka government has approved 48 industrial projects worth Rs 2,062 crore that would provide jobs for over 6,393 people in the state.
The clearance for the projects was given at the State Level Single Window Clearance Committee (SLSWCC) meeting chaired by Large and Medium Scale Industries Minister Murugesh Nirani.
According to Nirani, the panel has considered and approved seven important large and medium size industrial projects worth Rs 1,275.67 crore.
Also, at the SLSWCC meeting, 40 new projects each with investment of more than Rs 15 crores and less than Rs 50 crore were cleared.
These projects valued at Rs 724.87 crore would generate 3,212 jobs, the minister noted.
A total of 48 projects with investments of Rs 2,062.21 crore with employment potential for 6,393 people were cleared.

11. PM Modi unveils statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in Pune:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled the statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj situated on the premises of Pune Municipal Corporation.
The Statue is made up of 1,850 kg of gunmetal and is about 9.5 feet tall.
PM Modi is on a one-day visit to Pune where he will take part in various events including the inauguration of the Pune Metro line and attending Golden Jubilee celebrations of Symbiosis University.
The foundation stone of the project was also laid by the Prime Minister on December 24, 2016.
Prime Minister will inaugurate a 12 km stretch of the total 32.2 km Pune metro rail project.
The entire project is being built at a total cost of more than Rs 11,400 crore.
He will also inaugurate and inspect an exhibition at Garware Metro Station and will undertake a metro ride from there to Anandnagar Metro Station.
He will also lay the foundation stone of rejuvenation and pollution abatement of the Mula-Mutha River projects.
Rejuvenation will be done in 9 Km stretch of the river at a project cost of more than Rs. 1,080 crore.
Mula-Mutha River pollution abatement project will be implemented on the concept of “One City One Operator” at a cost of over Rs 1,470 crore.
A total of 11 sewage treatment plants will be constructed under the project, with a combined capacity of around 400 MLD.
Prime Minister will also launch 140 e-buses and e-bus depot constructed at Baner.
Prime Minister will also inaugurate the R.K Laxman Art Gallery-Museum constructed at Balewadi, Pune.
The main attraction of the Museum is a miniature model based on the village of Malgudi which will be made alive through the audio-visual effects. Cartoons drawn by cartoonist R K Laxman will be showcased in the Museum.

12. Himachal Pradesh gets its first-ever multipurpose rainwater harvesting dam in Una:

Dam has been constructed in the Samoor Khad area near village Samoor of the district at the cost of Rs 16.38 crores.
Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur will inaugurate the dam this month.
The cost-effective dam built in Samoor Khad is able to store up to 767 million litres of water to increase the groundwater level in geographically difficult areas
The Lift Irrigation scheme has been designed to irrigate the area of 9 villages for 233 hectares.

13. Sitharaman lays foundation for NACIN in Andhra Pradesh:

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman laid the foundation stone for the construction of the National Academy of Customs, Indirect Taxes and Narcotics (NACIN) in Anantapuramu district of Andhra Pradesh.
NACIN will be the training academy for probationary officers of Indian Revenue Service (IRS), on the lines of the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (Mussorie) and the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy (Hyderabad)
The academy is situated in Palasamudram village near Hindupur in the district.
Training programme for probationary IRS officers will begin at NACIN from September 2023 and by 2024 the academy will take full shape.
The Centre would spend Rs 729 crore on building NACIN in the first phase. NACIN was sanctioned in December 2014 and then Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley unveiled a plaque in April 2015 for its establishment.

14. Sikkim CM launches plastic waste awareness week Gangtok:

Sikkim Chief Minister PS Tamang launched the plastic waste awareness week, laying stress on finding an alternative for single use plastic.
Which Will be observed throughout the state from March 6 to 12.
Everyone needs to change their mentality, which should not take more than 15 days.
We have been troubling Mother Earth by using single-use Plastic. Plastic makes the soil week and polluted. The animals and fish die if they eat plastic.
Tamang asserted that plastic has to be banned.
On October 2 last we banned the use of two-litre plastic water bottles.
But some people have produced water with bottles marked 2.1 litre without concern about pollution, and only for profit.
The state food department has informed that plastic bottles of up to three litres have already been banned in India as per an existing Act.

15. J&K gets single window clearance portal Jammu:

Jammu and Kashmir has entered into a new age of developmental trajectory with the integration of ‘Single Clearance Window Portal’ with the National Single Window System.
The step has been dubbed ‘as a giant leap in Ease of Doing Business (EoDB)’ where the UT has been integrated to facilitate investment in the region.
J&K was the first among the Union Territory to be integrated with NSWS, a 2020 budgetary announcement of the Government of India.
130 industrial services have been made online on a single-window system, over 160 more services would be integrated this year.
The platform was soft-launched in September 2021 by the Union Minister for Commerce and Industry, Textiles and Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Piyush Goyal.

16. Odisha observes ‘Panchayati Raj Diwas’ on Biju Patnaik’s B’Day

Former chief minister and freedom fighter Biju Patnaik on his 106th birth anniversary.
The legendary leader’s birth anniversary on March 5th is observed as ‘Panchayati Raj Diwas’ as Patnaik was a supporter of decentralizing power to the grass root level.
The ruling BJD, which is named after the leader, also organized several events marking Biju Patnaik’s birth anniversary.
Biju Patnaik was born to Laxminarayan and Ashalata Patnaik on March 5, 1916, at Cuttack city in Odisha.
During the freedom struggle, Patnaik was imprisoned in 1945 for taking part in the Quit India Movement.
He also played a prominent role in the Nepalese democratic movement and Indonesia’s struggle for freedom from Dutch rule.
He was conferred with Indonesia’s highest civil award “Bhumi Putra” for his exemplary contribution to that nation’s freedom struggle.
Biju Patnaik was chief minister of Odisha twice, from 1961 – 1963 and 1990 – 1995. His younger son joined politics after demise of Biju Patnaik in April 1997.
