Sethuraman, for failing to clarify on news or promptly disclose information with regard to stake purchases in the company’s subsidiary Jio Platforms by FaceBook, Silver Lake and Vista equity partners.
  • SEBI said the three noticees did not comply with the provision of principles of fair disclosure of UPSI (unpublished price sensitive information), which states that there should be prompt dissemination of unpublished price sensitive information that gets disclosed selectively, inadvertently or otherwise to make such information generally available.
  • RIL and its compliance officers did not issue any clarification on the same, as required under Regulation 30(11) of SEBI (LODR) Regulations, 2015 which states that “The listed entity may on its own initiative also, confirm or deny any reported event or information to stock exchange(s)”.

  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) announced on June 18 that Millath Co-operative Bank Ltd., Davangere, Karnataka, had its license suspended leading to a shortage of capital.
  • As a result, the bank will cease to conduct banking operations on June 18, 2022, at the close of business.
  • “The Registrar of Cooperative Societies, Karnataka has also been requested to issue an order for winding up the bank and appoint a liquidator for the bank.
  • The bank does not have adequate capital and earning prospects.
  • As such, it does not comply with the provisions of Section 11(1) and Section 22 (3) (d) read with Section 56 of the Banking Regulation Act, 1949.
  • RBI has further added that on liquidation, every depositor would be entitled to receive deposit insurance claim amount of his/her deposits up to a monetary ceiling of ₹5,00,000/- from Deposit Insurance and Credit Guarantee Corporation (DICGC) subject to the provisions of DICGC Act, 1961.
  • As per the data submitted by the bank, all the depositors will receive full amount of their deposits from Deposit Insurance and Credit Guarantee Corporation (DICGC).
  • As on May 18, 2022, DICGC has already paid ₹10.38 crore of the total insured deposits under the provisions of Section 18A of the DICGC Act, 1961 based on the willingness received from the concerned depositors of the bank.

  • Australia announced that it will provide 50 million US dollars to support Sri Lanka for meet urgent food and health care needs.
  • Australian High Commissioner in Sri Lanka David Holly said that Sri Lanka currently faces its worst economic crisis in seventy years, leading to shortages of food, medicine and fuel.
  • He further said that Australia will contribute an immediate 22 million dollars to the World Food Programme for emergency food assistance to help three million people in Sri Lanka meet their daily nutritional needs.
  • Australia will also provide 23 million dollars in development assistance to Sri Lanka in 2022-23.
  • On other hand, the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) said that nearly five million people are food insecure and in need of assistance in Sri Lanka.
  • It said, Nutritious foods, such as vegetables, fruits and protein-rich products are now out of reach for many low-income families.
  • According to media reports, WFP’s recent surveys indicated 86 per cent of families are resorting to at least one coping mechanism, including eating less, eating less nutritious food and even skipping meals altogether.

  • At the event, he also unveiled 150 ‘Technology Hubs’ that have been developed by transforming the Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) across Karnataka.
  • Developed at a cost of over Rs 4,700 crore, the Technology Hubs initiative is supported by many industry partners and aims to create a skilled workforce to address Industry 4.0 manpower needs.
  • Out of the total cost, the state government has contributed Rs 657 crore while Tata Technologies Limited (TTL) and its industry partners contributed Rs 4,080 crore.

  • This award recognises innovative approaches in leveraging new technologies to expand educational and lifelong learning opportunities for all, in line with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its Goal 4 on Education.
  • Established in 2005 with the support of the Kingdom of Bahrain, the prize rewards individuals and organisations that are implementing outstanding projects and promoting creative use of technologies to enhance learning, teaching and overall educational performance in the digital age.
  • An international jury selects two best projects annually.

  • As per an official statement, this year about 600 students from 26 states/UTs and Demonstration Multipurpose Schools of Regional Institutions of Education will be participating in the forthcoming National Yoga Olympiad.
