  • Commodore P R Hari (retd) took over as the chairman and managing director of Defence PSU Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Ltd, an officially. Hari has been in charge of production planning of all new construction ships built at the shipyard since 2016 and became director (personnel) of the warship builder in October 2019, heading human resources, corporate planning and technical functions of GRSE, the official said in a statement.
  • Hari, who has a vast experience of over 32 years in warship operations, maintenance, design and shipbuilding, took charge of the Kolkata-based GRSE as its CMD.
  • He served for over 28 years in the Indian Navy where he has served in senior appointments onboard warships and naval repair organisations, the GRSE official said.

  • An ombudsman has the power to receive complaints from MGNREGA workers, consider such complaints, pass awards within 30 days from the date of receipt of complaint and issue direction for conducting spot investigation and also initiate proceedings ‘suo motu’ if there are any grievance including on issues related to delayed payment of wages or non-payment of unemployment allowance.

  • In this context, a LOC agreement was signed between GOSL and the Export-Import Bank of India (June 10, 2022) at Colombo, in the presence of the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka Ranil Wickremesinghe, the Minister of Agriculture Mahinda Amaraweera, and the High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka Gopal Baglay. 
  • Senior officials from the Sri Lankan and Indian side were also present during the signing ceremony,” the Indian High Commission said in a statement.
  • This credit line will help Sri Lankan government secure urea fertilizer for the ongoing paddy sowing ‘Yala’ season.
  • In view of the critical requirement, the Sri Lankan government and EXIM Bank have agreed to complete all procurement procedures expeditiously so that urea supplies can reach Sri Lanka in a short span of time.
  • The support from India ranges from economic assistance of close to USD 3.5 billion to helping secure Sri Lanka’s food, health, and energy security by supplying essential items like food, medicines, fuel, kerosene etc.

  • The Ministry of Coal released an action plan for 2022-23 and said under the Coking Coal Mission the government has set a target to enhance the annual coking coal production from 45 million tonnes (MT) in 2020-21 to 140 MT by 2029-30.
  • The Ministry of Coal said it has finalised an Action Plan Document for the year 2022-23 which broadly focuses on 15 crucial areas.
  • The Action Plan covers the entire gamut of areas for steering the coal sector into new technologies while focussing on the core competence of increasing production targets.
  • Coking Coal Mission had been launched by the Ministry for enhancement of coking coal production from 45 Million Ton in 2020-21 to 140 MT by 2029-30 which includes 105 MT from Coal India Limited.
