  • A recipient of the country’s second-highest civilian award, Padma Vibhushan, he was born Brij Mohan Nath Mishra on February 4, 1937, in a well-known family of Kathak dancers.
  • The news comes just days after his nephew and disciple Pt Munna Shukla passed away following a brief illness at 78.

  • Available in two cycles with a cut-off time of 2 PM and 5 PM, respectively, merchants can opt for either or both the cycles and receive their funds in just a few hours on the same day.

  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has released the Annual Report of the Ombudsman Schemes for the year 2020-21 for nine months (July 1, 2020- March 31, 2021).
  • As per the report, the volume of complaints received was increased by 22.27 % on an annualized basis, BOS accounted for the major increase.
  • The overall disposal rate improved from 92.52 per cent to 96.59 per cent, despite the higher volume of complaints received.
  • The office of the Non-Banking Finance Companies (NBFCs) Ombudsman, Chennai, received 5,845 complaints during the period from July 1, 2020 to March 31, 2021.
  • The scheme is administered through the centres in Chennai, Kolkata, Mumbai and New Delhi for handling complaints received in the respective zones.
  • The Chennai Office handled 6,462 complaints (including those brought forward from the previous years) and 6,278 complaints were disposed of, amounting to a disposal rate of 97.15% for July 1, 2020 to March 31, 2021.

  • Leading up to the ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav – Smart Cities: Smart Urbanization’ conference scheduled to be held in Surat, in February 2022, the Open Data Week is part of a series of pre-event initiatives being undertaken by MoHUA to promote awareness and use of open data.
  • It will be conducted during the third week of January, i.e., from 17th January 2022 to 21st January 2022.
  • The Event will see participation from all 100 Smart Cities that will be publishing high-quality datasets and data blogs on the Smart Cities Open Data Portal.
  • Presently, more than 3,800 datasets and more than 60 data stories are already available on the Portal to various stakeholders to analyse this data and uncover actionable insights.
  • The Event aims to show the benefits of open data such as increased efficiency, transparency, a spur in innovation, and economic growth.
  • The Day will see engagement of people from different backgrounds including government agencies, private sector enterprises, scientific and academic institutions, businesses, start-ups, civil society etc.
  • The idea is to provide a platform that offers ample opportunities on how to continue creating and promoting the use of data that addresses complex urban issues, such as the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
  • This can help governments in solving some of the most common problems faced by the citizens of any city and replicating the successful ideas in other cities.
  • All 100 smart cities are geared up for the event, making it a collaborative effort towards making Indian cities ‘Data Smart’.

  • In case of lost belongings, one can easily track their lost items and get them back.
  • The Railway Protection Force (RPF) plays a major role to ensure the safety and security of passengers as well as their luggage and belongings.
  • In this direction, the RPF has taken a new initiative by launching “Mission Amanat”, making it easier for the railway passengers to get back their lost luggage.
  • According to a press release issued by Western Railways, under the new Mission Amanat initiative, the details of lost luggage and belongings along with photos are posted on the official website of the zonal railway.
  • The Railway Protection Force uploads the information of the lost luggage and belonging in the web portal https://wr.indianrailways.gov.in/ in the tab of divisions under the link “Mission Amanat – RPF”, Western Railways said.
  • During the year 2021, from January to December, the Railway Protection Force of the Western Railway zone retrieved left behind luggage having value to the tune of Rs 2.58 crore belonging to a total of 1,317 railway passengers as well as returned the luggage to them after due verification.
  • The Railway Protection Force of Western Railways has been providing this service to railway passengers under Operation Mission Amanat.
