  • India’s leading drone startup Garuda Aerospace has announced its partnership with the Union Bank of India (UBI).
  • Under the partnership, about 150 Garuda Agri Kisan drones have received sanction for drone loans under the Kisan Pushpak Scheme.
  • The drone loan will help farmers to digitise land record operations for crop production, spraying of fertilisers, chemicals, growth promotors, pesticides, etc., with the help of drones.
  • The partnership will be useful for lead generation, customer acquisition, sourcing of applications, and due diligence of customers for credit deployment.
  • Garuda Kisan drone is the first to receive the Agri drone loan in July 2022 from Union Minister of Agriculture and farmer welfare Narendra Singh Tomar.
  • Agri Infra Fund (AIF) has about 1 lakh crore out of which 1,000 crores have been allocated to drones.

  • Capital markets regulator Sebi has allowed mutual funds with active Equity-Linked Savings Schemes (ELSS) to launch passive schemes, a move that will provide a cost-effective and tax-saving alternative to individual investors.
  • Earlier, mutual funds were allowed to either launch an actively-managed ELSS scheme or a passively-managed one but not in both categories.
  • In a communication to asset management companies (AMCs), Sebi said, ”Mutual funds having existing actively managed open-ended ELSS scheme may launch passively managed open-ended ELSS schemes after stopping fresh inflows/ subscription to existing actively managed open-ended ELSS scheme”.
  • The regulator has also specified the procedure for launching a passive ELSS scheme by a mutual fund house, which already has an actively-managed ELSS scheme.

  • The outlook is stable, said Ind-Ra in a statement.
  • BoI, since FY21, has reported consistent profitability which, along with timely capital raise, has largely led to an improvement in its Common Equity Tier 1 to 12.97 per cent at end-2QFY23.
  • This has resulted in a total capital adequacy ratio (CAR) of 15.51 per cent and both CET1 and CAR compare favorably with peer banks.
  • The rating action considered the BoI’s ability to absorb the impact of any expected or unexpected credit costs.
  • BoI’s provision cover is improving without any significant deterioration in its credit profile and market position.

  • The government said it received in-principle approval from the BSE on December 30, 2022, for listing of NMDC Steel Ltd (NSL).
  • Currently, the government holds a 60.79 per cent stake in NSL, which is the steel manufacturing facility of India’s largest iron ore producer NMDC located in Nagarnar, Chhattisgarh.
  • NSL is up for privatisation with the government looking to sell 50.79 per cent of its shareholding, along with management control.
  • The last date for putting in preliminary bids or Expression of Interest (EoI) is January 27.
  • In response to pre-bid queries received from interested bidders, the Department of Investment and Public Asset Management (DIPAM) said the Ministry of Corporate Affairs on October 6, 2022, approved the demerger of the steel manufacturing unit at Nagarnar from NMDC.
  • The demerged entity would be NMDC Steel Ltd (NSL).
