World Hindi Day:

  • January 10 is celebrated as World Hindi Day every year to spread awareness about Hindi as an international language across the world.
  • The day is especially observed by Indian embassies abroad.

World Hindi Day: History

  • In the year 1975, the first-ever World Hindi Conference took place in Maharashtra’s Nagpur on January 10.
  • The conference was inaugurated by then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and saw participation from a total of 30 countries.
  • And in 2006, former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh declared that January 10 will be observed as World Hindi Day every year.
  • This was also the first time that the ministry of external affairs started celebrating the day abroad.

  • Barty defeated 2020 Australian Open champion Sofia Kenin and 2020 French Open winner Iga Swiatek of Poland en route to the title in Adelaide, without dropping a set or a service game against Rybakina, Kenin or Swiatek.

  • The intercity rail service with all facilities was launched on Sunday for passengers travelling from Colombo’s Mount Lavinia suburb to Jaffna’s Kankesanthurai port suburb in the north, covering a distance of approximately 386 kms.
  • The supply of air-conditioned diesel multiple units is just one of the many railway projects being undertaken by India in Sri Lanka, the Indian High Commission said, adding that there are also other ongoing projects, which include supply of passenger coaches under an Indian Line of Credit.
  • India’s total development portfolio in Sri Lanka is over USD 3.5 billion, of which around USD 570 million are purely grant projects, the Indian mission said in a statement.
