1.Yash Dhull named captain of ICC U19 Valuable Team of the Tournament:

• The Most Valuable Team of the U19 World Cup has been named with captain Yash Dhull chosen to skipper a line-up of future stars.
• Overall, eight nations are represented in the 12-strong lineup as champions India lead the way with three players included.
• The pace is provided by the likes of Josh Boyden, Awais Ali, and Ripon Mondol with all-rounders Tom Prest and Dunith Wellalage the spin options alongside Vicky Ostwal.
• South Africa’s Dewald Brevis was announced as the Player of the Tournament for the ICC Under 19 Men’s Cricket World Cup 2022 in the West Indies for his record-breaking run haul.

2. India becomes first team to play 1000 ODIs:

• India became the first team to play 1000 One-Day Internationals, achieved the feat in the ongoing first ODI against West Indies at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
• In the 999 ODIs played earlier, India accounts for 518 wins and 431 losses.
• The Men in Blue had played their 500th match in 2002 and two decades later, the side has now reached the milestone of playing 1000 ODIs.
• In India’s 100th ODI, Kapil Dev was the captain while Sourav Ganguly had led the side in the Men in Blue’s 500th ODI.
• Australia has played the second-most ODIs in the world with 958 matches while Pakistan has played 936 ODIs.
• England is in the 7^th spot in the list of most ODIs played after having played 761 matches in the 50-over format.
• Ishan Kishan would open the batting alongside Rohit Sharma while the hosts have also given a chance to Deepak Hooda in the playing XI.
• The Indian players will sport black armbands in the first ODI to condole the demise of legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar.

3. Indian singer Lata Mangeshkar, “the Nightingale,” dies at 92:

• Lata Mangeshkar, one of India’s biggest cultural icons and a singer who defined music and melody for generations of her countrymen, died.
• She Born in 1929 in pre- independence India, Mangeshkar began singing in her teens, and in a career spanning 73 years sang more than an estimated 15,000 songs in 36 languages.
• Classically trained, Mangeshkar moulded her voice to the demands of singing for Bollywood movies, even voicing songs in her 60s for an actress who was in her 20s.
• Her songs motivated millions of Indians during wars with China and Pakistan to pay homage to the defence forces.
• Mangeshkar, dominated the Hindi film industry for almost five decades until the 2000s, along with her younger sister Asha Bhosle.
• Mangeshkar received India’s highest civilian honour, the Bharat Ratna, in 2001.
• She was awarded France’s highest civilian honour, the Legion of Honour, in 2009.
• Other Name:– Queen of Melody Nightingale of India.

4. LIC, Policybazaar joins hands to offer term, other insurance products:

• Life Insurance Corp. of India (LIC), Policybazaar.com have joined hands to offer a wide range of term and investment products to consumers.

9. LIC launches special campaign for revival of individual lapsed’ policies:

• LIC has announced a special revival campaign for individual lapsed policies from February 7 to March 25.
• This is the second such campaign for revival of lapsed policies that it has launched this fiscal year.
• A maximum concession of 20 per cent to 30 per cent or Rs 2,000 to Rs 3,000 in late fees depending on the premium for conventional and health policies is also available.
• In the case of micro insurance policies, 100 per cent waiver in late fees is available.

5. PU VC releases book on ‘Environmental Health’:

• Pondicherry University Vice-Chancellor Prof.Gurmeet Singh along with Prof Rajeev jain, OSD Culture and Cultural Relations, PU has released a book titled ”Environmental Health and Occupation Health, penned by Dr Ajeet Jaiswal, Professor, Department of Anthropology.
• The book was brought out by Paragon International Publishers, New Delhi.
• This is the 11th book of Dr.Jaiswal.The present book is the first of its kind in India.

6. IPO-bound LIC ropes in 6 independent directors on its board:

• Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) has last month appointed six independent directors on its board to meet regulatory norms of corporate governance.
• LIC appointed former financial services secretary Anjuly Chib Duggal, ex-Sebi member G Mahalingam, former SBI Life managing director Sanjeev Nautiyal.
• And Chartered accountant MP Vijay Kumar, Raj Kamal, and V S Parthasarathy are roped in as independent directors on LIC’s board.
• With the appointment, the total number of independent directors goes up to 9 and all vacancies are filled.
• Fulfilling corporate governance norms is an important element for filing Draft Red Herring Prospectus (DRHP) with the Securities Exchange Board of India (SEBI).
• The embedded value of LIC has been arrived at and it is over Rs 5 lakh crore.
• The issue, after approval of Sebi, is likely to hit the market in March.Up to 10 percent of the LIC IPO issue size would be reserved for policyholders.
• LIC’s listing is crucial for the government to meet the lowered revenue estimates of Rs 78,000 crore for the current financial year.
• Till now, the Centre has raised around Rs 12,000 crore from the privatization of Air India and stake sale in other PSUs.
• GoI, extended the tenure of LIC chairman M R Kumar & managing director Raj Kumar, for 12 months.
• This is the second extension for the LIC chairman. Last year in June, he was given a nine-month extension in a view of LIC’s proposed initial public offering towards the end of the current financial year.

7. IIT-Gandhinagar develops cost effective, eco-friendly technique to make seawater potable:

• IIT Gandhinagar, developed water desalination technique to make seawater potable by removing over 99 % of salt ions and other impurities with natural processing.
• This is the first such method that could controllably manipulate graphite, without damaging its structural integrity, inside aqueous solutions.
• The finding has been published in the International journal ‘Nature Communications’.
• It can also be suitable for dehumidification applications as expanded graphite has high water evaporation rates.

8. Sri Lankan Foreign Minister arrives in Delhi for three-day visit:

• Sri Lankan Foreign Minister G. L. Peiris arrived in Delhi for a three-day visit to India, to strengthen bilateral ties including in areas of trade and connectivity.
• He will meet External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar.
• Sri Lanka’s Finance Minister Basil Rajapaksa had travelled to India in December last year.

REMARKS:

• Jaishankar had a virtual meeting with Sri Lankan Finance Minister on January 15.
• The USD 400 million SAARC currency swap facility has been extended to Sri Lanka and the ACU settlement of $ 515.2 million has been deferred by two months.
• Another USD 500 million LOC for the purchase of fuel from India has also been extended.
• India delivered 100,000 Rapid Antigen Self-Test Kits to Sri Lanka to assist it in the fight against COVID-19.

9. MCA21 portal’s third version to be rolled out in March:

• The corporate affairs ministry is preparing to launch the third version of the MCA21 portal in March, starting with the LLP module.
• The 3^rd version of the portal, a key platform to submit the required documents and filings under the companies law and the Limited Liability Partnership Act, will leverage analytics, artificial intelligence and machine learning.
• An official said the third version of MCA21 is expected to be rolled out in March and the LLP module will be rolled out first.
• The ministry has told stakeholders that it will launch a new way of e-filing for LLP on the portal and that going forward, all LLP filings will be web-based.
• There are also plans to set up an MCA lab as part of the third version of MCA21 for improving data analytics.
• L&T Infotech is developing the third version of the portal.MCA21 also provides public access to corporate information.

10. NTPC puts into operation 74.8 MW solar capacity in Rajasthan:

• NTPC said that 74.88 MW power generation capacity is commercially operational at Fatehgarh Solar PV Project at Jaisalmer in Rajasthan.
• With this, commercial capacity of the NTPC and NTPC group has become 54,377.30 MW and 67,832.30 MW respectively.

11. KVIC cancels certification of its oldest Khadi institution for selling fake products:

• Khadi and Village Industries Commission has cancelled the Khadi Certification issued to its oldest Khadi institution, the Mumbai Khadi & Village Industries Association, for alleged sale of spurious non-Khadi products.
• The institution was running the Khadi Emporium at Metropolitan Insurance House, a heritage building, located in Mumbai since 1954.
• The action came after KVIC found that the Khadi Emporium at Dr D.N. Road was selling non-Khadi products in the guise of genuine Khadi.
• During routine inspection, its officials collected samples from the Emporium that were found to be non-Khadi products.
• Consequently, KVIC issued a legal notice to MKVIA for flouting the norms of “Khadi Certificate” and “Khadi Mark Certificate” issued by the Commission.
• KVIC had, in the year 1954, handed over the operation and management of Khadi Emporium to MKVIA, a registered Khadi institution, on the strict condition that it would sell only “Genuine Khadi Products” from the emporium.
• KVIC has sought damages to the tune of Rs 500 crore from Fabindia which is pending before the Mumbai High Court. Last year, KVIC also forced online shopping portals – Amazon, Flipkart and Snapdeal – to take down 140 web links that were selling non-Khadi products as “Khadi”.

12. India’s digital rupee to debut by early 2023:

• India’s very own official digital currency is likely to debut by early 2023, which will mirror any of the currently available private company-operated electronic wallets, but with a change that it will be a sovereign-backed facility.
• The digital currency issued by the RBI would be numbered in units, just like every fiat currency has an unique number.
• The digital rupee blockchain, being developed by the Reserve Bank, would be able to trace all transactions, unlike the current system of mobile wallet offered by private companies.
