  • Capital markets regulator Sebi uesday extended the deadline till September-end for existing trading and demat account holders to provide choice of nomination or opt out of nomination.
  • Earlier the deadline was March 31, 2023.
  • In July 2021, the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) asked all existing eligible trading and demat account holders to provide choice of nomination on or before March 31, 2022, failing which the trading and demat accounts would have been frozen for debits.
  • Later, this was extended by one more year till March 31, 2023.
  • ”Based on the assessment of the trading as well as demat accounts in which choice of nomination details (furnishing of nomination or declaration for opting out of nomination) has not been updated and on the basis of representations received from the stakeholders, it has been decided that the provisions.
  • with regard to freezing of accounts shall come into force with effect from September 30, 2023 instead of March 31, 2023,” Sebi said in a circular.

  • In March 2022, Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) had lowered the interest rate on EPF for 2021-22 to a four-decade low of 8.10 per cent for its subscribers, from 8.5 per cent in 2020-21.
  • This was the lowest since 1977-78, when the EPF interest rate stood at 8 per cent.
  • The apex decision making body of EPFO, Central Board Trustees (CBT) headed by Union Labour Minister Bhupender Yadav, recommended 8.15 per cent annual rate of interest to be credited on EPF accumulations in members’ accounts for financial year 2022-23.

  • NBCC, the Navratna CPSE of the Government of India, signed the MOU for cooperation with Scirocco Enterprises Ltd of Zambia for the construction of 1 lakh low and medium-cost houses to mitigate an acute shortage of housing in that country, the company said in a statement.
  • The MoU was signed through virtual mode by K P M Swamy, Director (Commercial), NBCC (India) Ltd and MaustafaSaadi, Chief Executive Officer, Scirocco Enterprises Ltd in the presence of P K Gupta, CMD, NBCC.
  • The housing units are to be constructed by 2030. NBCC will provide its engineering services as EPC Agency.
  • NBCC has successfully completed social housing in Mauritius and the construction of social housing units at Maldives is under progress.

  • The Union Minister of Heavy Industries, Dr. Mahendra Nath Pandey, announced the sanction of Rs. 800 crores under FAME India Scheme Phase II to the PSU Oil Marketing Companies (OMC) – Indian Oil (IOCL), Bharat Petroleum (BPCL), and Hindustan Petroleum (HPCL) – for setting up 7432 public fast charging stations across the country.
  • The Committee headed by DG BEE recommended certain changes to improve the viability of the development of public charging infrastructure.
  • It includes supporting the upstream infrastructure (such as distribution transformer, LT & HT cables, AC distribution boxes, circuit breakers/isolators, protection equipment, tubular or PCC mounting structures, fencing and civil work) which generally cost up to 60% of overall cost for setting up a Public EV charging station.
  • The upstream infrastructure comprises of the money that is to be paid by ChargePoint Operators to the DISCOMs to obtain electricity connection.
  • Based on the recommendation of committee, MHI approved financial assistance for setting up upstream infrastructure of up to 80% upstream infrastructure.
  • This will make installation of charging stations easier by reducing the upfront cost. In addition, the earlier subsidy of 70% on EV Supply Equipment will continue as before.
