  • The day was established after an initiative of physicians, speech-language pathologists, and singing teachers. It was on April 16, 1999, when the Brazilian Society of Laryngology and Voice, chaired by Dr Nedio Steffen, declared the day as Brazilian Voice Day.
  • Apart from Brazil, the United States of America, Portugal, and Argentina also marked the day. According to historical records, the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery began to mark the day in 2002. The day was officially designated World Health Day in 2003

Himachal Pradesh celebrates its 75th formation day

  • The 75th anniversary of the formation of Himachal Pradesh is being celebrated across the State
  • Himachal Pradesh came into existence on the 15th of April 1948 as a Chief Commissioner’s State. With this, Himachal Pradesh was created as a province of India. Later on the 25th of January 1950,

  • The idea is to foster and develop a green finance ecosystem in the country, the central bank said.
  • The framework shall come into effect from June 1, 2023
  • The framework is applicable to Scheduled Commercial Banks including Small Finance Banks excluding Regional Rural Banks, Local Area Banks and Payments Banks and all deposit-taking Non-Banking Financial Companies (NBFCs), including Housing Finance Companies.
  • A green deposit means an interest-bearing deposit, received by the RE for a fixed period and the proceeds of which are earmarked for being allocated towards green finance.
  • The registered entities shall issue green deposits as cumulative or non-cumulative deposits
  • On maturity, the green deposits would be renewed or withdrawn at the option of the depositor. The green deposits shall be denominated in Indian Rupees only.
  • The tenor, size, interest rate and other terms and conditions (as applicable to the RE) are defined in the Master Direction of the Reserve Bank.

  • Backed by increasing economic ties, the United States has emerged as India’s biggest trading partner in 2022-23. The bilateral trade between India and the US increased by 7.65 per cent to $128.55 billion in 2022-23 as against $119.5 billion in 2021-22, according to the provisional data of the commerce ministry.
  • It was $80.51 billion in 2020-21.
  • Exports to the US rose by 2.81 per cent to $78.31 billion in 2022-23 as against $76.18 billion in 2021-22, while imports grew by about 16 per cent to $50.24 billion
  • Exports to China dipped by about 28 per cent to $15.32 billion in 2022-23, while imports rose by 4.16 per cent to $98.51 billion in the last fiscal. Trade gap widened to $83.2 billion in the last fiscal as against $72.91 billion in 2021-22
  • The data showed that China was India’s top trading partner since 2013-14 till 2017-18 and also in 2020-21. Before China, the UAE was the country’s largest trading partner.
  • In 2022-23, the UAE with $76.16 billion, was the third largest trading partner of India. It was followed by Saudi Arabia ($52.72 billion), and Singapore (USD 35.55 billion).
