  • He was admitted in the GTB Hospital, Delhi.
  • Sanjay Kumar, Deputy Director (Media and Communication) in PIB was looking after the publicity requirements of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.
  • He was also associated with publicity work of the Ministry of Tourism in additional capacity.
  • During his illustrious career of over 34 years in IIS, he served in different publicity units of PIB under Ministry of I&B.
  • He also served in the personal staff of a central Minister.

  • Shanmukhappa Basappa Sidnal, former Lok Sabha member from Belagavi, passed away in Belagavi on April 27.
  • The four-time MP died of age-related causes.
  • The veteran Congress man represented Belagavi in the Lok Sabha from 1980 to 1991.
  • He was a trusted follower of Indira Gandhi and a close friend of veteran leader B. Shankarananda.
  • Sidnal’s father Basappa Sidnal was a freedom fighter. Sidnal served as the chairman of the Bar Association in Belagavi.

  • In 2020, the ADB had committed a record $31.6 billion to help Asia and the Pacific swiftly tackle the coronavirus disease outbreak: support a green, sustainable recovery from the pandemic and address long-term development challenges.
  • The $31.6-billion ADB committed from its own resources in 2020 was 32 per cent higher than 2019’s $24 billion.
  • These figures comprise loans and guarantees — including short-term trade finance, supply chain finance, and micro finance — grants, equity investments, and technical assistance, both to governments and to the private sector.
  • In December 2020, ADB had also launched a $-9 billion facility to support access to safe and effective vaccines and their equitable and efficient delivery.

  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) issued guidelines for appointment of Statutory Central Auditors (SCAs) / Statutory Auditors (SAs) in commercial banks, urban co-operative banks and non-banking finance companies from FY22 onwards, whereby they will have to appoint SCAs/SAs for a continuous period of three years.
  • RBI guidelines regarding appointment of SCAs/SAs will be implemented for the first time for urban co-operative banks (UCBs) and non-banking finance companies/NBFCs (including housing finance companies) from FY 2021-22.
  • However, UCBs and NBFCs will have the flexibility to adopt these guidelines from H2 (second half) of FY 2021-22 in order to ensure that there is no disruption.
  • Non-deposit taking NBFCs with asset size (total assets) below ₹1,000 crore have the option to continue with their extant procedure.
  • Commercial banks (excluding Regional Rural Banks/RRBs) and UCBs will be required to take prior approval of RBI (Department of Supervision) for appointment/reappointment of SCAs/SAs on an annual basis.

  • A UN-led global immunization strategy was unveiled to reach more than 50 million children who have missed lifesaving jabs against measles and other diseases because of COVID-19 disruption.
  • WHO, along with UNICEF and the vaccine alliance Gavi, said their new global strategy has the potential to save 50 million lives within less than a decade.
  • A WHO survey showed more than one third of countries were still seeing disruptions to their routine immunisation services.
  • The joint statement said, around 60 mass vaccination campaigns were currently postponed in 50 countries, putting 228 million people, mostly children, at risk of diseases such as measles and polio.

  • Meghalaya has planned to achieve the target of Har Ghar Jal by December next year under Jal Jeevan Mission.
  • The mission is a flagship program of the Central government to provide household tap water connection to every rural household of the country by 2024.
  • Meghalaya has five lakh 89 thousand rural households, out of which tap connections are provided to 16 per cent rural households.
  • The State has provided 87 thousand tap connections on 2020-21.

Jal Jeevan Mission: Gujarat presents Annual Action Plan for 2021-22:

  • The State of Gujarat presented their Annual Action Plan for 2021-22 under Jal Jeevan Mission to the national committee chaired by the Secretary, Department of Drinking Water & Sanitation via video conference with details of the saturation plan for the financial year 2021-22, thereby ensuring every rural household gets tap water connection.
  • In 2021-22, the State plans to provide 10 lakh tap water connections in the rural areas of the State.
  • During 2020-21, Gujarat received the performance incentive grant of Rs.100 Crore under the JJM for better performance.
  • During the presentation, Gujarat reiterated the commitment to achieve ‘Har Ghar Jal’ target by 2022-23.
  • The State has over 93 lakh rural households, out of which 77.16 lakh (83%) have tap water supply.
  • 12 lakh tap water connections have been provided in rural households in Gujarat in the last 1½ year under Jal Jeevan Mission.
  • So far, 5 districts, 31 blocks and 8,242 villages in Gujarat have been declared ‘Har Ghar Jal’, which means every rural household in these areas has tap water supply. The State was urged to give more emphasis on the priority areas like SC/ ST dominated habitations, SAGY villages, etc.
  • The committee appreciated the efforts made by the State in providing 100% piped water supply in all schools and anganwadi centres under the 100-day campaign launched on 2nd October 2020.
  • JJM is a flagship programme of the Union Government, which aims to provide tap water connection in every rural household by 2024. In 2020-21, Rs 983 (including performance incentive of Rs. 100 crore) Crore was released to the State to provide assured tap water supply in rural areas.
  • In the 2021-22, Gujarat is likely to get about Rs. 2,000 Crore as Central funds to take up various works under Jal Jeevan Mission.
  • Under Jal Jeevan Mission, in 2021-22, in addition to Rs 50,011 Crore budgetary allocation for JJM, there is also Rs 26,940 Crore assured fund available under the 15th Finance Commission tied-grant to RLB/ PRIs for water & sanitation, matching State share and externally aided as well as State funded projects.
  • Thus, in 2021-22, more than Rs. 1 lakh Crore is planned to be invested in the country on ensuring tap water supply to rural homes.

13. Finance Minister Inaugurates India’s First 3D Printed House At which IIT?

  • Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman inaugurated India’s first 3D printed house at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras campus.
  • The house has been constructed by Tvasta Manufacturing Solutions, a startup founded by IIT Madras alumni, which is a is part of the new incubator of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) established at IIT Madras.
  • The 600 square feet single-story house has been constructed using indigenous concrete 3D printing technology and in collaboration with Habitat for Humanity’s Terwilliger Center for Innovation in Shelter, the institute said.
  • Using this technology, a house can be build in five days.
  • Tvasta’s concrete 3D printing is an automated manufacturing method for constructing three-dimensional real-life structures.
  • The technique utilizes a concrete 3D printer that accepts a computerized three-dimensional design file from the user and fabricates a 3D structure in a layer-by-layer manner by extruding a specialized type of concrete specifically designed for the purpose.
